"Beth." Quinn smiled as she opened the front door. "What a nice surprise. What are you doing here?"
"I need to talk to you." Beth responded.
"Come in." Quinn encouraged Beth, extending her arms. "Everything okay?"
"I'm okay." Beth promised as she stepped inside. "Is everybody around?"
"It's just me." Quinn explained. "What's going on, B?"
"Caleb and I got into a fight." Beth noted.
"Okay." Quinn replied. "Well, fights happen, but if it was bad enough to make you fly across the country, then-"
"I just wanted to see you." Beth interrupted. "To talk it over with you. In person."
Quinn nodded slowly.
Beth looked at her.
"Come sit." Quinn decided, taking Beth's hand and leading her to the kitchen.
Beth sat down at the counter and Quinn sat beside her, turning in to face her.
"Caleb isn't hurting you, is he?" Quinn asked.
"No." Beth shook her head.
"Good." Quinn said.
"We were fighting about our future." Beth stated. "Because I told him I'm not sure if I wanna have kids."
Quinn furrowed her eyebrows.
"He wants them, like, yesterday, and he said I should've said something before we got married." Beth informed Quinn. "But I guess it wasn't until the idea of it was close to my reality that I realized I'm conflicted about it."
"And that's okay." Quinn assured Beth. "Why are you conflicted about it?"
"I don't want kids because I feel like my siblings were like my kids. I feel like I've already raised kids." Beth explained. "But on the other hand, I want you and Dad to get a chance to be grandparents."
"B, I'm sorry that we relied on you so much to help with your siblings." Quinn apologized. "And to be clear, you and Caleb can't have kids for any reason other than both of you wanting them."
"But-"
"Your father and I will be okay if we don't have grandchildren." Quinn cut Beth off. "And who knows? Maybe one of your siblings will make us grandparents in, like, ten years."
Beth smiled slightly.
"So take me and your father and your siblings out of it." Quinn continued. "What do you want?"
"How did you know you wanted to be a mom?" Beth questioned Quinn. "Did you always know?"
"I always assumed I would be because that's what my family did." Quinn shrugged. "Everyone got married and then had babies."
Beth nodded slowly.
"When I was pregnant with you, I was terrified and afraid for so many reasons, but I knew I wanted to be a mom someday." Quinn went on. "And when I met you, I knew I was meant to be your mom."
Beth smiled slightly.
"You're young, B." Quinn added. "You two should just enjoy married life. Travel, explore, be adventurous and spontaneous. And sleep in while you can, trust me."
Beth laughed lightly.
"You've only been married for a few months and you're young, so there's no reason you can't wait a few months, or even years, to have a baby if you want one." Quinn noted.
"What would you do if you were me?" Beth wondered.
"When I was your age, I had three kids already." Quinn pointed out. "And I don't regret any of you for a single second, but if I were in your shoes right now, I would talk to Caleb. If you're completely sure that you never want kids, be honest with him. And if you think that you're just not ready now, tell him that."
"Okay." Beth replied.
"What do you think?" Quinn asked.
"I'm not sure." Beth said. "But I'm definitely not ready now."
"And that's fine." Quinn promised. "Just talk to Caleb."
"You're the best, Mom." Beth told Quinn. "Thank you."
