"Dad."
Puck turned around and smiled at his daughter. "There's the birthday girl."
"I hope I'm not interrupting your work, sorry." Beth apologized. "I just wanted to let you know I'm home."
"You're not." Puck promised. "How was school?"
"It was good." Beth answered. "My friends took me off-campus for lunch and treated me."
"Sounds like a good day of school." Puck noted. "Do you have a lot of homework?"
"No." Beth shook her head. "And tomorrow's Friday so..."
"Well, I wanna take you to dinner to celebrate tonight." Puck noted. "Unless you have plans with your friends."
"I'm gonna hang out with them tomorrow night." Beth replied. "Dinner sounds great."
"Cool 'cause I kinda already made a reservation." Puck added. "Go get ready. Maybe one of the dresses I left in your room with the rest of your presents?"
"You're the best." Beth smiled as she hugged Puck. "Thanks, Dad."
"Go ahead and open everything before we go." Puck suggested.
Beth nodded before excusing herself and running off to her room. She eyed the dresses laid across her bed, recognizing some from the photos of her mom she had seen before. In the gift bag by her bed, she found boxes and boxes of jewelry. Finally, Beth opened her card.
Happy eighteenth birthday to my Monkeyface. From the day I met you and held you in my arms, I knew that I was lucky to be your dad. I'm so proud of the person you've grown up to be, and I know that your mom would be just as proud. I love you so much, B.
Beth smiled at the message and shook her head at the check. She put it away before getting dressed in one of her mom's dresses and jewelry.
Beth put makeup on before doing her hair while she listened to music. When she was done, she grabbed her purse and put her shoes on before going to find Puck.
"Dad?"
"I'm downstairs!" Puck called back.
Beth came downstairs and grinned at Puck. "Looking good, Dad."
"You look just like your mom." Puck told Beth. "But with my hair."
Beth smiled.
"And that. That smile is mine." Puck noted. "But you look so beautiful."
"Thank you." Beth responded.
"Let's go celebrate." Puck said. "Maybe have a drink for Mommy?"
"Yes."
-
"Thank you for the dresses and the jewelry." Beth noted as she put her menu down. "And the check, which is too much, Dad."
"When I'm gone, all of mine is yours anyway." Puck stated. "You might as well enjoy some of it now."
"I don't think I've ever not enjoyed your money." Beth pointed out.
"Yeah." Puck chuckled. "Well, you're a good kid. You deserve it."
"Thank you." Beth said again. "For the dresses and the jewelry."
"Your mom would've wanted you to have that stuff." Puck replied.
"Yeah, thanks for that, too." Beth added. "I know it must be hard for you to talk about her, but you've always made sure we do."
"You would've loved her." Puck told Beth. "And she loved you. More than anything."
Beth smiled.
"She would be so proud of you." Puck said. "I'm proud of you."
"Thanks." Beth responded.
"Let's raise a toast." Puck decided, raising his glass. "Happy birthday to my little Monkeyface. Welcome to adulthood, B. Cheers."
"Cheers."
