Deaf

Prompt: your deaf and you need help on equation and your mum's work colleagues help you and learn about you 

You pulled your hair into a pony tail and quickly walked downstairs to see your mum in the kitchen and you walked over and tapped her on the shoulder and you see her turn to you "mum" you sign to her and she quickly signs back "yes darling" and you move to sit next to her "its half day tomorrow at school" you sign to her and see her look at you "I forgot darling, you will have to come to my work tomorrow" she signed to you to explain what you had to do "do I have to, I've never been to your work before" you sign to her and look at her "I know darling but you can't stay on your own after school" she signs to you which makes you put your head back in defeat "sorry darling, you can just sit in my office" she taps you and signs to you after you look at her "okay" you sign before getting up "going to go bed" you sign again before going upstairs to go bed for the night.

You left school and headed for your mums work and sighed when you quickly got there and messaged your mum to let her know you were outside the building, you see the gate open and see your mum stood their in front of you "hi mum" you sign and walk over to her and give her a hug before following her into the building "you had a good day" she signed to you when you looked at her "yeah" you sign and follow her into her office and you see a brunette sat at a desk, you tapped your mum to get her attention "who is that" you sign to her "that's Marjorie" she signed to you and spelt out Marjorie and you quickly did a sign name for Marjorie by doing a motion of glasses on your face before doing the letter M "Marjorie" you repeated doing the sign name and nodded your head at her and move to sit in the chair opposite the desk your mum went to sit at and saw the brunette look at you before looking at your mum but since you couldn't hear you didn't know what they were saying and just got your work out your bag and started on it.

Siobhan looked at you when you sat down and saw Marjorie looking at you before looking at her and she knew that the questions would start, she normally doesn't work at the main nursery but she is covering for Autumn who is currently out sick "Siobhan who is that" she heard Marjorie say to her and she just stared at Marjorie "not that it concerns you but that is Y/N and she is my daughter" she tells Marjorie and sees her jaw drop in shock "just go back to work Marjorie" she tells Marjorie and goes back to her own work, she was focused on her work but quickly looked up when she heard a tap on the desk and saw you tapping to get her attention "what's up" she signed to you and she saw you gesture to the book before signing "need help" and she got up and walked round the desk "what is wrong" she signs to you and sees you point at an equation and she looked at it and even she was confused "hold on" she tells you before grabbing the book of the desk and walking to Marjorie "do you understand this" she asked Marjorie and showed her the equation and watched as Marjorie read it "I do kind off, but I think Sorscha or Charlotte would be better at it" Marjorie tells her and Siobhan looked at you "we can help you but we just need to grab someone who can help you a bit better" she signed to you and saw you nod at her.

Siobhan walked over to the phone and quickly dialled the baby room "hi Charlotte speaking" she heard Charlotte say down the phone "Charlotte are you able to come to office for a minute" she asked Charlotte "sure Siobhan" she heard before she hung up the phone and turned to you "can you carry on or do you need to do that one first" she signed to you quickly "need to do this one first" she saw you sign and she nodded at you in understanding, she looked over to the door and saw Charlotte walk through and looked around the room and spotted you sat there "Charlotte we need help with a math question" she tells Charlotte before she tapped on the table to get your attention "Charlotte is going to help you" she signed and spelt out Charlotte when you looked at her and pointed behind you and saw you turn to see Charlotte stood behind you before turning back to her and nodded and signed "Charlotte" to her but she saw you do a 'c' with your hands before doing a butterfly motion with your hand "is that her sign name" she signed to you and saw you nod at her. Siobhan turned to Charlotte who was looking at you with a confused look on her face "Charlotte this is Y/N she is my daughter and she needed help with an equation if you don't mind helping her" she asked Charlotte who nodded at her "sure what is the question" Charlotte asked her and she quickly passed the book over to her and saw Charlotte move next you but watched as she made sure to make you aware of her being there and she saw you look at her "this is Charlotte" she signed to you and sat down in front of you so she could sign to you what Charlotte is saying.

You watched as your mum sat in front of you from the other side of the desk and you looked at her before looking at who your mum told you was Charlotte "hi I'm Y/N" you sign to her and see her look at your mum and saw your mum mouth something to her before Charlotte looked at you and you saw her turn to you and watched her move her hands and you recognised it as sign "hi nice to meet you" and you smiled at her for at least trying to communicate "its okay you can either write or get my mum to translate" you sign to your mum to translate for you. Looking at your mum she translated for you when Charlotte spoke and quickly you got through the equations in your work book and you turned to Charlotte "thank you" you signed to her and she smiled at you and mouthed 'your welcome' and you quickly gave her a hug and put your stuff away and got your reading book out instead to read but you looked at your mum "have you got a snack or anything" you signed to her and saw her reach into her bag and pull out one of your protein bars that you like and handed it to you "thank you mum" you sign to her and open it before reading your book.

Siobhan watched as you curled up with your book and snack in the chair and she saw Marjorie and Charlotte looking at her "why do you sign and why doesn't she speak if you don't mind me asking" she heard Charlotte ask her and she sighed before tapping the desk to get your attention since you were leaning against so she knew you would be able to feel it and she saw you look at her "can I explain" she signed to you and saw you point to your ears and she nodded at you "yes" she saw you sign and went back to your book and she turned to Marjorie and Charlotte "Y/N is 13 and is completely deaf, she can't hear a thing but due to being deaf she doesn't speak" Siobhan tells them and saw them look at you "does she not have any hearing aids or anything" Siobhan heard come from Marjorie and she turned to look at Marjorie "she has them but she hates to wear them so I don't force her to wear them, I get that here I come across mean and don't care about the children but that isn't the case I put up a front to protect her because I know what its like to get looks about her when she signs" Siobhan says and looks at you with a smile on her face "how did she become deaf or was she born deaf" Siobhan heard Charlotte ask and she turned to face the brunette "she was born deaf, her birth father left as soon as he found out she was deaf" she explained and sat in her chair and looked at the women in front of her "well I just want to say you have raised her very well and what were the gestures she did" she heard Marjorie ask and she was touched by what she said but laughed because she knew the gestures did look weird "thank you Marjorie and them gestures are name signs that she gives to people instead of spelling names out however you can only get a sign name from someone who is deaf" she explains and sees them both nod at her.

You look up and put your book down when you saw your mum sat with a look on her face, you stand up and walk over to her and plop down on her lap and felt her wrap her arms around you to stop you falling off her lap and you turned to face her "why are you sad" you sign to her and tap her cheek which made her smile "I'm okay sweetie" she signed to you and tapped your nose which made you scrunch your nose at her "bunny" she signed to you which made you shake your head "mama, don't get sad about me not hearing" you sign to her and she looked at you and shook her head "I know sweetie" she signs to you and brings you in for a cuddle "can I get to know Charlotte and Marjorie better one day" you sign to her and see her nod at you "sure sweetie" she signs and you rest your head on her chest and even though you couldn't hear her heartbeat you felt like you knew it would be soothing.
