I glared at her, every word I spoke dripping with a venom I could barely control. "No, you can't. You think you can play these sick games with us but you have no right to torture patients like this. You have no right to take their lives by performing reckless surgeries. And you know what? You can't do anything to me or Tejasswi. Not anymore. Everyone knows who we are. Everyone will notice if we're gone and then you'll have to answer for what you have done. And trust me, when the truth comes out, no one can stop you from going to jail"
Her eyes narrowed but I saw the flicker of doubt in them. She knew I was right. The fear was there. Even if she tried to hide it behind that facade.
"You think you're untouchable" I continued, my voice lowering to a dangerous whisper. "But I know exactly what you did to Nikita and Riya. And I swear to God, I'll make sure you never get away with it"
Her face turned pale but she didn't look away. She knew she couldn't scare me anymore.
She swallowed hard, her fingers tightening into fists but she held her ground. "We'll see" was all she said, her tone dripping with defiance.
"Don't underestimate me Mrs. D'Souza. You have no idea what I'm capable of"
The room seemed to grow colder as she stared at me, her eyes burning with hatred. But before I could say anything else, she turned sharply, walking toward the door, clearly trying to make sure no one would suspect that she had me locked in here.
But as she reached the door, she paused, and a sudden, sharp movement caught my eye. Without warning, she grabbed a strip of cloth from the desk and walked back toward me. I could only watch in horror as she wrapped the cloth tightly around my mouth. She tied it with such force that it was impossible for me to speak, to call for help. My heart pounded in my chest.
What the hell was she doing?
"You won't get away with this" I tried to say, but all that came out was a muffled groan. The cloth dug into my skin, cutting off my words but I wasn't done. I wasn't finished.
"I'll be back" she threatened, her voice cold and sharp. Then, just like that, she was gone.
I was left alone, tied to a chair, with my mouth gagged. The room felt suffocating, and a wave of panic rose inside me. This woman, this monster had reached a whole new level of evilness. Who the hell did she think she was, playing God with people's lives?
I had to get out. I had to save Tejasswi. There was no time to waste. She was planning to operate her, and I knew she wouldn't hesitate to follow through with her twisted intentions. Every second counted.
I glanced around the room, desperately searching for anything, anything that could help me escape. My hands bound tightly to the chair, were useless. My wrists ached from the strain.
Then, I saw something, a desk drawer. My mind raced. There had to be something inside. A tool, a weapon, anything that could help me cut through these ropes. I struggled in the chair, trying to move closer to the desk, dragging it slowly with me, inch by inch.
My muscles screamed in protest but I ignored the pain. I pulled the chair forward using every ounce of strength I had left. As I reached the desk, I kicked at the drawer with my foot, praying it would open. Slowly, painfully, it slid open.
I could see the contents inside-papers, pens, nothing useful. But then, a glimmer of hope. A cigarette pack and a lighter. It wasn't much, but it was something.
I cursed under my breath. How the hell was I supposed to use a lighter to escape? But then, it hit me. The rop. The fabric around my wrists could burn. If I could just get the rope to catch fire, I might be able to free myself.
I twisted my body, angling the chair so my bound hands could reach the drawer. My fingers trembled as I grasped the lighter, my heart racing. I didn't have much time. The lighter flickered to life in my hand, and I brought it closer to the rope, praying it would catch.
For a moment, nothing happened. Then, I felt the rope start to soften, the heat slowly burning through it. My pulse quickened. It was working.
I held my breath, hoping and praying that the rope would burn fast enough before she returned. Every second felt like an eternity. Sweat beaded on my forehead, and the cloth around my mouth grew tighter, cutting into my skin. I could taste the fear on my tongue, bitter and sharp.
And then, finally, with a sharp crack, the rope snapped. My hands were free. I couldn't help but smile widely. I stood up from the chair, feeling victorious. I was finally free. But there was no time to celebrate. I had to act quickly. I needed to find Tejasswi and stop Mrs. D'Souza before it was too late.
I was about to remove the cloth from my mouth but stopped myself. I needed to check the door first. When I got up and turned the knob, I realized it was locked. Suddenly, I heard a gunshot in the distance. The loud crack echoed through the silent hallways. My eyes widened in worry. That couldn’t be... Before I could finish the dreadful thought, the door creaked open, and my heart stopped.
She was back.
