Summary: Raven came home for the holidays and didn't expect arguments
Raven had been excited to return home for the holidays. She had missed her family—her mom, dad, uncle Draco, and aunt Pansy. She thought Christmas at Malfoy Manor would be peaceful, filled with gifts, warm fireplaces, and maybe even a little time to relax.
She was wrong.
The moment she stepped inside, she could feel the tension in the air.
Draco and Pansy were standing in the middle of the grand sitting room, voices raised.
Lola and Mattheo were in the dining hall, clearly in the middle of their own argument.
Raven sighed, dropping her bags. “Well, this is a great start.”
She walked toward the sound of Draco and Pansy’s fight first.
“I told you I don’t want them around Raven!” Draco snapped, his hands balled into fists.
“She’s old enough to make her own choices, Draco!” Pansy shot back. “You can’t shelter her forever.”
“She’s twelve!” Draco growled. “She doesn’t need to be around people like that!”
Raven blinked. Who exactly was he talking about?
Before she could ask, Lola and Mattheo’s voices rang from the dining hall.
“Oh, so now I’m overreacting?” Lola’s voice was dangerously low.
“I didn’t say that,” Mattheo sighed, sounding frustrated. “I just think you should stop worrying so much!”
“She’s my daughter! Of course I’m going to worry!”
Raven groaned and ran a hand down her face. This was not the Christmas I wanted.
She stepped fully into the room, loudly clearing her throat.
Everyone stopped.
Four pairs of angry eyes turned toward her.
Raven crossed her arms. “Okay, what in Merlin’s name is going on?”
Lola sighed, rubbing her temples. “Sweetheart, it’s nothing—”
“Clearly, it’s something.” Raven raised an eyebrow. “Because everyone is arguing, and I just got home.”
Draco ran a hand through his hair, muttering something under his breath.
Pansy just huffed and crossed her arms.
Mattheo shook his head and muttered, “You don’t need to worry about this, little snake.”
Raven narrowed her eyes. “Try me.”
Silence filled the room for a moment before Pansy spoke first.
“Your uncle doesn’t want you visiting certain people,” she said, rolling her eyes toward Draco.
Draco scoffed. “They’re not safe!”
Mattheo added, “And your mother is worried about something happening to you while you’re home.”
Raven sighed, flopping onto the couch.
“I swear,” she muttered. “Sometimes, I think I’m more mature than the four of you.”
That, at least, earned a small laugh from Pansy.
Draco glared. “We are trying to protect you.”
Raven shook her head. “I appreciate that, but I came home for Christmas, not a battlefield.”
Lola let out a deep sigh and walked over, placing a gentle hand on her daughter’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, love. We’ll try to sort this out.”
Raven looked at her mother, then at her uncle, her aunt, and her father.
This was going to be a long holiday.
