After the whistle blew to end the first half, I waited until most of the players and coaches were walking off the field.
My eyes caught Ivan and the referee moving to the east wing of the stadium. Not going to the north wing where they supposed to be going. Managing to sneak close to the tunnel where they were speaking in hush voices.
I position myself in a way that I could take a video of them talking. As well as recording Ivan handing the referee a thick envelope. Counting money, no doubt payment to keep the favour on Ivan's side.
Quickly and causally, I made my case known to Mr Norah. Which led to the referee, Ivan, Coach Ace, her brother, and myself to being called to a office in the stadium.
All of us standing in the middle of the room with Mr Norah holding my phone with the video still playing. His face was turning red as some veins were popping under his skin.
Once the video ended, his black eyes turned to Ivan, "You have been bribing the referee for this match. Have you bribed any of the previous referees in the matches that your team played in?"
"No sir, this was the only time I've done this." Ivan admitted, although my gut wasn't convinced. He might lie to the skin of his teeth just to keep him clean. "This was a foolish attempt to win out of stress and anxiety."
"Seeing the kind of sportmanship you are showing, Mr Wilson, I am honestly deeply troubled." Mr Norah said as he handed my phone back. Clenching the envelope that was confiscated before we stepped into the office, "Finding this money on you, Jeffrey, I am beyond disappointed."
Jeffrey, the referee seemed more nervous than any of us in the room. "Sir, I'm sorry, I -"
"Have you been offered money to give any teams advantage in any previous matches?" Mr Norah asked strictly.
"Yes - No, sir, this was the first time. The only time." Jeffrey was stumbling over himself. He's been fidgeting with his hands since he was called to the office.
And the head of the tournament doesn't seemed like he wasn't in the understanding mood, "You are suspended from refereeing the next three tournaments to come."
Jeffrey took two steps forward, pleading desperately, "No wait, Mr Norah - this was a mistake, a bad -"
He stopped speaking when a hand raised. Black fire breathed from Mr Norah's eyes as he speaks, "You won't receive payment for the actions that you've taken today. Hand me your whistle."
No room for apology, no room to discuss a way to make up. Jeffrey gave his whistle, turned to leave the room after giving Ivan a look of regret and hate.
Of course, he didn't care. In his eyes, Ivan won't mind destroying anyone as long as he gets his way. Which only caused my blood boiled and more determined to beat him in this final match.
Mr Norah shook his head with a deep sigh, "We might have to call off this match. And let Knights win by default."
"But we have two goals to our name!!" Ivan yelled, taking a step forward, as if he was about to fight the head of the tournament.
Whom stood straight to his full height which was six seven feet, completely towering over Ivan, "Which you have gotten through illegal fouls and bribing a referee!!"
Before Ivan could try to have justify himself, I stepped forward, "You don't have to forfeit the match, because of Ivan's action. This match can still continue and end in a more fair and equal way, Mr Norah."
