Chapter 6
Nang dumating ang daddy ni Chio ay tinawag na rin kami ni tita Mia para magdinner.
Sa hapag ay nakahanda ang Pochero, Grilled Beef, at Lasagna. Nang makita ko iyon ay naramdaman ko agad ang gutom. Lalo na yung lasagna. My favorite~
Bago ako umupo ay lumapit muna ako kay tito Gil at nagmano. My family was still traditional. We still follow the filipino way.
"Good evening, tito." bati ko.
"Good evening din, hija." bati niya rin pabalik tsaka umupo.
Bumalik na ako sa pwesto ko sa tabi ni Chio. Inilahad niya sa akin ang upuan para makaupo ako. Nang nakaupo na ako ay umupo na rin siya.
Hindi ako kinakausap ni Chio. Kanina pa siya walang imik after ng mga sinabi niya. Ni hindi niya rin ako tinitignan ng matagal sa mata. Nasaktan ko na naman siya, I know. It made me more guilty.
Those times that he won't talk to me are the times that I really feel his pain. Me, of all people, should know how he feels right now. Everytime I make him feel that I don't love him the way he loves me. Kasi ako, I feel it too.
To love someone who is just in front of you but never feel his affection for you. To know that you won't get to his heart because it's miles away. Na ipinakita at ipinadama mo naman sa kanya ang lahat ng pagmamahal mo pero nasasayang lang din dahil wala siyang maibibigay sayo pabalik.
It's either you stay loving him or leave even if both the choices would hurt you. It's just a matter of which hurts more.
Some people choose to stay in love to the extent of looking stupid. Others choose to leave and move on with life because it's the last thing left to do.
Ako? I'm in between. I've not decided yet. But, I know my time's almost done. I should be choosing soon.
Sa ngayon, the only thing I know I could do is to return all the favor to Chio. I should make him happy and even if I hurt him most of the times, I should make sure it's in minimum. I can never make the pain go away completely.
We were eating dinner and having a little chitchat. Tito was talking about the new investor they got in the company and tita was speaking about the new restobar she's about to open in BGC. Chio was congratulating them. I was just looking at him, answering random questions thrown my way by tito and tita.
"I heard that Camille and Richard will be going to London for vacation. When are they leaving, hija?" tanong ni tita Mia.
"Mom and dad are leaving?" pagtataka ko. I have no knowledge about it. Wala silang nabanggit tungkol dito.
"Hindi mo ba alam?" na-blanko ang itsura ni tita Mia. Umiling nalang ako.
I'll ask them about this. Hindi siguro nila sinabi sakin kasi alam nilang pipilitin kong sumama. Pero di din naman na talaga ako makakasama kahit gustuhin ko pa kasi medyo marami nang school works na nakaabang.
"So, where are you planning to celebrate your anniversary, Chio?" pag-iiba ni tita ng topic.
Napatigil sa pagkain si Chio. He was staring at his plate with brows furrowed. His parents think we're together.
Napabuntong-hininga siya bago nagsalita."We're not in a rela--"
Hindi ko alam kung anong pumasok sa isip ko pero I cut him off bago niya pa matapos ang sasabihin.
"Actually, di ko po dapat ito sasabihin pero I have a surprise for Chio." I reached for his hand and held it while looking straight through his eyes.
Ang mga mata niyang nakatingin rin sa akin ay nagtataka pero nadama ko ang paghigpit ng hawak niya sa kamay ko.
"Really? How sweet. I can't wait." ngiti ng mommy niya.
"You are one lucky guy, son." sabi naman ng daddy niya.
"Yes, I am." pagsang-ayon ni Chio pero nakita ko ang lungkot sa mga mata niya.
"I'm sure I'm the one who's lucky." I spoke. And though hindi pa ako tapos kumain ay hindi ko parin binitiwan ang kamay ni Chio.
Siya din ay di pa tapos pero mahigpit parin ang hawak niya sa kamay ko.
Tsaka niya lang binitiwan nung sinabi ni tita na ubusin na ang pagkain namin.
When we finished eating ay pumunta ba kami sa kwarti ni Chio. Sinabi niya na rin na ang papanuorin naming movie ay Predestination.
"You didn't have to do that." sabi niya nung papasok na ako sa banyo sa kwarto niya. Maglilinis muna ako ng katawan bago kami manuod ng movie.
Alam ko ang tinutukoy niya.
Nginitian ko siya. "But, I want to." And that's the truth. I want to return all the favor by accepting him little by little.
Hindi na siya nagsalita ulit kaya isinara ko na ang pinto.
