One... Two... Five... Six. Six loaves. That's a lot for this week. Usually na so-sold-out ang mga 'to. I don't know why some are left.

I looked at the loaves of bread na malapit ng ma-expire. I checked the date again. Three days from now. What the heck am I going to do with these?

Mom went in a get-together with her friends, which includes an overnight in the hotel where they're staying, and left the shop for me to guard. As if someone's going to rob a bakery... Si Mom talaga... Now I can't even sleep soundly on my own bed in my condo unit. I can't even come there often. Now that Mom is here, I'm almost always in the shop or in her house. James, on the other hand, is having a great time over my absence at ginagawa na niyang headquarters ang condo unit ko.

While staring at the loaves of bread intently, I decided what to do to dispose them properly. Dadalin ko na lang sa bahay nila Casper. There're tons of people there. Finishing six loaves will be a piece of cake for them. I nearly laughed. That's almost a pun.

I stacked them up to hold them better. I was about ten steps or so away from the door when I noticed something crouching by a nearby bush.

The bread stack almost fell off of my arms.

"Amber, is that you?" I asked, looking at the crouched figure.

Amber looked up at me and I saw that her face is tearstained. "It's the main perpetrator." She said in a soft voice.

"What?" Tanong ko. I think I heard it wrong.

"You're the one to blame for all this." She said and stood up.

"Come again?" I replied. Ano namang pinagsasasabi ng babaeng 'to? Is she out of her mind?

She went to me and started punching my shoulder. "Ikaw kasi, ikaw kasi, ikaw kasi e!" She yelled.

"Ouch. Teka nga. Wait. I'm carrying something here!" I told her. She stopped.

"Let's go inside and let me put this down properly, then you can hit me as much as you want." I told her.

She nodded like a child and followed me into the shop. I put the bread on the counter then led Amber in the employees' lounge. It's not really your normal employees' lounge though. To be accurate, it's the place where Amber and Mom chatter like chipmunks on breaktime or watch TV or movies and it's also the place where I rest or sleep while watching the shop.

I took a good look at Amber. She sat on the couch. O—kay...

First of all, she's wearing indoor slippers and sleepwear.

"You're not planning to sleep over here, are you?" I teased.

"Papunta ako kina Kristie when I met you. Kina Kristie ako matutulog." She answered.

"And the reason is?" I asked.

She suddenly made a face, the kind that a child makes when another child takes his place on his favorite swing. Then she stood up and tried to beat me again.

"Ano ba? Hey, stop it!" I said, grabbing her wrists.

"You said that I can beat you up until I'm satisfied." She said as she struggled to free her wrists from my grip.

"We'll talk this out like adults, okay? Mas okay ang conversation than violence." I said.

Amber lowered her hands in surrender and I let go of her wrists. Tapos bigla na lang pinaghahampas na naman niya ako.

I stopped trying to stop her and just took the hits. Pambata lang naman kasi yung mga hampas niya e. Hindi naman talaga masakit.

"What did I do wrong this time?" I asked as I'm being hit.
