Y/N'S POV
For some time now, I had been sitting down inside my favorite coffee shop. Though, I was enjoying this fancy coffee I was trying for the first time. As I was sitting down at this basic table, I felt someone sit down beside me. I turned and saw Clark Kent.
Clark Kent was my best friend growing up, and he was still my best friend now. There had never been a day where Clark Kent hadn't been there for me. I smiled and instantly kissed his cheek, which made him blush and send me another smile back.
"So, how are you doing, Kansas?"
Clark chuckled and fixed his glasses saying,"I am doing the best that I can to stay positive for Metropolis, but I am doing much better. I'm here because I'm waiting on Lois. She wanted to interview me, so I let her talk me into meeting here. What about you? You did not come here alone, did you?"
I smiled at Clark's concern and pinched his cheeks saying,"Yes, and I love you the more for caring, Man of Steel. I will be fine, okay? Just relax and enjoy my company. Women like me are rare to find; especially, if they look like this."
Clark just laughed slightly, and Lois arrived a few minutes later. She greeted me warmly, before she sat down beside Clark. Clark kept an eye on me, while he watched Lois at the same time. I always enjoyed having Superman watching over me, because I had been hurt a few times in my life.
Every time something tragic happened, Superman was there to keep me company and give me whatever kind of comfort I needed. Sadly, Clark and Lois had to leave. I refused to let it get me down and enjoyed my peace and quiet. That was interrupted, too, by some guy sitting down beside me.
"Hello, can I help you?"
He smiled and then smirked, stroking my cheek saying,"Yes, you absolutely can. How about you and I go have some fun, yeah?"
I rolled my eyes and poured my coffee over him saying,"How about we not, yeah? How about I not beat you and leave you for the police. I am feeling a little generous today, but I am not sure how long it will last, you know?"
That caused him to get up, and I heard claps and whistles coming from around me. I smiled and ordered another coffee, before I tried to hand the cashier my money. A soft hand pulled mine back, and I looked the man in the eyes.
His eyes were...breathtaking and probably the most captivating I had ever seen. He sent me a smile that could make your heart melt and stop, literally. He handed the cashier his money, before I received my coffee and me and the man walked together in silence.
He cleared his throat and said,"Ma'am, I do not really know what to say, but I am sorry if you did not want me to pay for your drink. I was just told that women appreciate that and-"
I cut him off by giggling and smiling up at him saying,"It is okay, handsome. I really do appreciate it. You know, men like you are hard to find, and I appreciate you paying for me. I am Y/N, you are?"
He sent me a smile I would never forget and held out his hand saying,"Steve Rogers, but Steve is fine."
I smiled back and said,"I am Y/N. Wait, hold on a second."
Steve looked a little confused, and I held in my fangirl.
CAPTAIN AMERICA JUST SHOOK MY HAND!! YEAH, I KNEW WHO HE WAS NOW, BUT I WAS JUST REALIZING IT! HOW?
I took many deep breaths and said,"Wait, the Steve Rogers? I am sorry it took me so long to figure it out, but aren't you a long way from home? You will love it here, I promise."
Steve chuckled and kissed my hand saying,"I am a long way from home, but a man I met not too long ago helped me figure out how to come here when I needed to get away. I come here and sit every few months."
I smiled up at him saying,"I guess everyone needs a change of scenery. I get that. Metropolis is beautiful during the daytime."
Steve smiled back at me and asked me,"Do you live nearby?"
I nodded saying,"I do. Would you like to walk with me?"
Steve nodded and said,"Lead the way."
Steve and I walked together, and he shared many short war stories with me. I enjoyed hearing them. I enjoyed being able to actually have someone else to talk to.
Once we made it inside my apartment, Steve looked around in awe and said,"This is a nice apartment. That is a compliment, by the way. I would never mean to be rude."
I instantly smiled and nodded saying,"I know, Captain, I know. So, how have things been for you?"
Steve sat down beside me and sighed saying,"They have been pretty rough, but the team and I have managed to get through it. I am just glad that I managed to save Bucky. He's my best friend. He is getting better, which is a good thing."
I put my hand over his and said,"I am sorry that things have been rough for you and your team, but I hope they get better. I just want to say that you inspire me. Yeah, that was what I wanted to say."
Steve sent me a smile and intertwined his fingers with mine.
I finished saying,"You were always the one to make the sacrifice no one else would make, which taught me that it was okay to be different from everyone else. You can be the smallest but make the biggest difference and impact on the world. Thank you, Steve, even though I know it might sound boring to you, but you have always been the one I looked up to."
Steve had tears in his eyes, before he pulled me in for a side hug. I hugged back and enjoyed his comfort.
He held me tighter and slowly pulled away saying,"I appreciate what you said very much, darling. I did not know I could make that much of a difference on someone, and you do not have to go through anything alone anymore. If you ever need someone, I will be there."
I nodded and smiled, before Steve kissed my cheek and held on for a minute.
He held me again, before he got up and said,"I would love to stay, but it is about time I got back home. Sam and Bucky probably have broken something by now, so I need to be there. Here is my number."
Steve and I exchanged numbers, and I watched Steve go. I would have gone with him, but I could not just drop everything and go somewhere else. I still had things I had to do, and I knew Steve was only one phone call away.
I was sure the Star-Spangled Man With A Plan had something else going on that he needed to take care of, too.
