"Had enough?" Jade asked, sighing loudly in my ear.

I smiled evily and pecked her cheek. "One more store, then we can go."

She groaned and checked her watch. "It's 9:30 in the bloody morning. We've been out since 3:00. That's six and a half bloody hours. I am bloody tired."

"Well, I'm not supposed to leave children alone in a locked car. You could suffocate."

Shee growled softly. "Don't be mean."

I kissed her, then tugged her hand towards our car. Alexis and Jesy were having a race to see who could touch the door first, and Katherine was officiating. Jesy won.

"I get shotgun!" she cheered, opening the door. Jade snarled and pulled her away by the back of her shirt.

"How about no."

Jesy's eyes widened and she raised her hands in surrender. "Woah, calm down. Take the damn seat."

I frowned at Jade. "That wasn't nice," I scolded, buckling my seatbelt, once again taking the driver's seats.

"I'm tired."

"That doesn't mean you should take it out on Jesy. Say you're sorry."

She sighed and turned around. "Sorry." She rolled her eyes and faced forward.

I clenched my teeth and counted to ten. Don't be too hard on her, you've made her shop with you for six hours.

"You know what, Jade? I'm dropping you back at the house. Right now," I decided, starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot. No one said a word.

"Babe, I didn't mea-"

"That's enough. I know you're tired, but there is no need to be mean to me or Jesy. So I'll do what you asked. You can go home. Anyone else wanna join her?"

Silence.

"You okay?" Jade asked, laying a hand on my shoulder.

I gently applied pressure on the brakes as we came to a red light. "I'm fine. I'm tired too, but this is Katherine's favorite holiday and I'm trying to have fun seeing all my old friends. But if you don't want to go, that's okay. It really is."

"I'm sorry, love. I didn't mean to stress you out." She leaned over and hesitantly kissed my cheek.

I couldn't help but smile. "It's alright."

"Well, we need to stop by the house anyways," Leigh piped, munching on Veggie Straws she was sharing with Katherine. "We have to drop off all the stuff we bought."

"And get breakfast," Claud added, yawning loudly.

"I'm so sleepy," Alexis whimpered, resting her forehead against the car window.

"We just have one store left- it's Mrs. Gregorio's."

"You mean our old third grade teacher's store?! That's where you want to go?" Katherine asked.

I nodded happily. "I loved her. It's a shame she quit so early."

"Uh, yeah, to open an antique store! It's creepy and smells like mothballs!"

I rolled my eyes, turning the corner into my neighborhood. "You're just bitter 'cause she actually liked me."

"That's not fair! I was just trying to impress Pete, not get suspended!"
