My eyes wander towards the ceiling,
My steady breathing is all that I focus on.
A million thoughts flash through my head,
Sudden regrets,
Maybe's and what iff's,

But a single thought is what remains,
As soon as the others disappear,
To the back of my mind.
It's what I've been told,
That in the hours
That my mind refuses to wilt off to sleep,
These are the times,
When my tears come freely,
When the shouts in my head aren't
Discouraged.

But as I lay here,
All I can see in mind,
Is the beauty of the world.

I think that just outside my window,
The stars are a guiding light,
When it was meant to be dark.

The wind sways back and forth,
Not saying a thing,
But I hear it's tune of exciting freedom.

The birds lay in their nests,
Peacefully at rest after their flight.
The roads are empty for once,
Enjoying their second of blissful solitude.

The trees can be free,
Wave around to their own rhythm for once,
Not have their oxygen only used,
And abused.

I hear no whispers of day,
Because for once it is quiet.
And it comes to my surprise,
The perfection all is,
When no voice yearns to be heard,
When no sound needs to be matched,
When no wish needs to be made.

I lay and stare at my ceiling,
A smile spread on my sleepy face,
12: 24 a.m,
My new, favourite time of the day.
