Friends with darkness

I remember the day you tossed me aside,
You threw me to the shadows,
Black clouds forming overhead,
Dark silhouettes sketched across the
Walls.
You left me there,
And turned around,
Going back into your light.

I shivered in that ditch,
Lying beneath a starless sky.
I heard howls,
Howls I couldn't see.
But when I heard echoes of your name,
Desperately looming as bright light,
In a world that existed of only darkness,
That was when I stood.

A funny sight it must've been,
A girl standing with her arms across
Her chest,
Mascara droplets runny down her cheeks,
Her hair matching the bleakness around
Her.

But my shivers slowly died away,
Not because I saw you,
But because I saw darkness clearly for once
For who she truly was,
She had been tossed aside by the light,
Much like what you had done to me.

I watched her in sudden awe,
She may be bleak and lacking of colour,
But when I heard her howls of frustration,
So similar to mine,
That's when I knew,
I never had a connection so strong with
Another,
No one who understood my tears as much
As she did,
All of a sudden,
I was friends with darkness.
