Unlocked

I still remember that day,
As if it were yesterday.
I stood on the bridge,
That beautiful tall bridge,
And overlooked the ocean.

My arms hung limply across the edge,
As I held that forsaken key.
That key that had led me into monstrous
Places.
That key that had unlocked emotions,
I forget of it's traces.

It was a brass key,
Scratched and it's shiny edges gone.
It was small,
But ever so powerful.
The road to my havoc,
The end result of my insanity.

I took in a deep breath,
And tossed the key into the waters.
It barely glistened in the sun,
As it fell amongst the waves,
The only place it belonged.
I turned and left.

But then you found it
You were an explorer,
And you had stumbled across it one day.
You picked it up from the shore,
And stared at it in admiration.
You were a fool not to toss it back again,

Because the day you picked up that key,
The day you decided to put it in your
Breast pocket beneath your beating heart,
The day I saw flashes of those brass
Outlines in your eyes,
Was the day my heart unlocked again.
