Our lives had a tendency to short live the things that made us truly happy inside out, yet somehow throughout this foolishness, we wanted to believe deep inside our hearts that time wouldn't do us wrong this time.
Holding the hand of the person who truly made me happy was what forever felt like, gazing deep into his eyes as he whispered secrets that no one other than I would know, sharing pains with one another trying to outlive the past with what the future had in store was what happiness felt like.
Those times we spent together I'd be lying if I said that in the back of my mind I always felt that this was too good to last for as long as it did.
I was always waiting for that storm, for the thunder to strike and hit its target.
But no matter how hard he tried feigning and pretending like he didn't think about it too I could see it in his eyes when I'd stare out the window and he'd be watching me. I knew what he was thinking because I was thinking it too. It wasn't because he wanted it to happen it just so happened to be that we led a life full of tragedies, disappointments, and heartbreak.
But my heart was set on proving him that I would never betray him, I would never hurt him, and that my heart would always have a place for him.
And it was in the little things he did.
Whether it was singing me to sleep, or surprising me with a new song. I found myself falling more and more with each day.
I always thought nothing would separate us, not now not ever.
"I always knew you were hiding something." X whispers as he wraps his arms around me from behind, he nuzzles his face on the collar of my neck as he glanced past my shoulder to the photo book in my hands.
"I wasn't sure you'd believe me if I told you," I say with a small smile on my lips.
"They don't make you do sketchy stuff?" He asks me.
I give a small shake of the head. "No, I wouldn't do any of that." I blush a deep shade of red.
"You can only do that with me." He kissed my cheek and I couldn't help but laugh.
"X?" A female voice says, my eyes trail up from the section of the book store we're at. X looks up at the girl in a suit approaching us, her hair is slicked back in a pony tail and she's wearing glasses.
"Oh, Jessica." X moves away from me and extends his hand out to her.
I swallow a bit nervous setting the photo book back on its shelf. "Nice to meet you X, I'm glad you finally chose what's best for you." Her eyes look from X to me.
"Oh um, this is Flor my girl and Flor this is Jessica my new manager for bookings and stuff." She offers me her hand which I take.
"You're very beautiful Flor, I've heard about your works, a few people in my field are actually interested in some bookings." I blush and thank her.
"So I need to go over a few things with you is that fine?" She looks back at me.
I offer a small smile, "I'll be looking around." I tell them, X leans over and plants a kiss on my cheek before heading off somewhere.
Sighing I figured it would be better to walk around the store.
I walked around each aisle until I reached the third floor where there weren't too many people. I ran my fingers through each book as I passed the aisle's trying to see which one caught my attention.
I was sort of creeped out by most of them because I was in the murder mystery section. I decided I liked the poetry section more and was about to head off over there when I noticed a book on the floor.
I bent down on one knee and reached for it, my hand running along the pages. Empress Myeongseong of Korea, I recognized the name and title of the story, the story itself was sad, sick, and twisted but what had impacted me the most was how the story was really something that had actually happened in history.
As my eyes were scanning through the book I thought I heard the sound of bells. My eyes looked up from the book and around the aisle but no one was there. Shaking it off I walked further down keeping a steady pace.
Clink, again I heard the noise.
My heart stilled, and I stopped walking, the palm of my hands started to grow sweaty. Maybe it was all in my head? I stayed quiet waiting to hear the sound again, cowering in fear. But I kept hearing the sound of the bells get closer and closer.
The sound was bringing unwanted memories to life.
I clasped my hand around my necklace and gathered enough courage to stand up again, I was about to start walking again when I heard the sound of footsteps mixed with the sound of bells. "X?" I called out.
No response.
My heart started racing then.
It was then I decided to make a run for it and without another word I dashed down the aisle, turning my head looking behind me. I wasn't paying attention to what was ahead of me that I crashed into someone.
I immediately gasped. "Flor?" The voice soothed me and realizing I was safe my legs gave out on me. "What's wrong?" He lifts me against his chest, brushing away strands of my hair, I shook my head not wanting to answer him and instead buried my face into his chest.
"I want to go home," I whisper.
He doesn't say much after that but instead lifts me up into his arms, on instinct I wrap my arms around his neck. "You're trembling." He comments but I don't offer any explanation.
How was I supposed to tell X the reason why I was so afraid, the reason why I had moved all the way over here was to avoid being stalked by a man in a mask who wore bells to alert me whenever he was near.
I knew there was no possible way he could be here now but the thought of him scared me so much that I couldn't breathe let alone think.
"You're safe." X reminds me, but I can only nod my head and hold onto him tighter.
