My heart stopped, a cold chill running down my spine as I looked up the exact same moment X did. I recognized his voice instantly but when my eyes met his the person standing a few feet away seemed like a whole other person. X lifted himself off the ground standing now those two kept there eyes on each other. The atmosphere was shifting, suddenly a darker menacing aura crept up.
I panicked, not knowing what to do or say. I was afraid that something was going to happen that was going to lead to an even bigger issue. I moved from the ground in attempt to stand but suddenly I froze.
I heard the sound of a girl scream followed by what sounded like glass break and then out of nowhere a fight broke out. It took a matter of seconds for this whole place to turn chaotic.
People were pushing one another to try and leave the club as more fights were breaking out. From where I was I no longer could see X or Scar as people pushed and shoved me.
I tried another feeble attempt to stand but a guy ended up shoving me and I landed on my back. I quickly turned my body to shield myself when a hand was extended towards me in a helping gesture.
My first reaction to the hand that was reaching out to help me was shock.
My heart raced as I caught on to what was happening. X was holding his hand out for me to take and I noticed as I stared at his hand how it trembled, as if he was afraid. Afraid of what it might mean for me to take this hand, but before he could even begin to remotely second guess himself I caught it.
His eyes lingered over me as we watched each other, it's been so long since the last time I'd seen him that it felt odd but familiar at the same time holding his hand. He pulls me up to my feet and shields me with his body as we move through the crowd.
"Flor!" I could hear Scar shouting my name calling after me, I turn my head and we lock eyes. I can see the pain that overcomes his features as he watches us but he knew, he always knew that there was always X in my life and in my heart.
I'm sorry, I mouthed.
And looked away.
I raised my eyes to watch X instead but to my shock he'd been watching me, he must have seen the whole exchange with Scar too because something in his gaze gives him away. Without speaking a word to each other we manage to reach the outside.
"Come on." X calls over his shoulder as he let go of me, he walks over to a motorbike and hops on handing me a helmet.
"This again." I grumble.
He smirks at my reaction. "You always hated it." He replies.
"You don't know how to drive the thing." I pointed out.
"Get on or I'm leaving without you." He threatens. I glared at him but reluctantly gave in and hopped on behind him once my helmet was on.
On instinct I wrapped my arms around him.
I could feel him tense up at the skinship but I was too oblivious to how nervous and out of touch he was to care. I needed this, actually I missed this all too much.
X doesn't give me a moment's time to enjoy the feeling and instead he presses on the gas and we're on our way speeding down the street while I cling to him fearing for my life.
He drives and drives and we pass foreign stores, and unknown places but the whole time I'm holding him I stare at our reflection that shimmers against the glass as we pass by the stores.
At that moment it felt like nothing had changed. That so much time hadn't passed.
That we hadn't grown older apart.
It felt like everything was going to be okay in that moment. But little did I know the pain he was going through, how much he tormented himself over the past... over not being able to save me.
He stopped by the beach, it was late out already so hardly anyone was here. I hopped off the bike setting the helmet on the back of his seat as I wandered off closer to the water.
The beach at night was actually kinda scary for some reason but at the same time it was beautiful too.
I stared at the water, the moon was out but too far to reflect against the water. I could see some stars but not very many were out and shinning.
For some reason I felt the need to turn my head and that's when I locked eyes with X. He was leaning against the bike hands in his pockets watching me with a careful expression.
Sighing, I walked over closing the gap.
He cleared his throat and looked away when I stepped close enough that our bodies touched. "You still have that."
I immediately know what he's talking about without him having to point it out. My hand on instinct reached for the necklace. "You do too." I whisper, referring to the bracelet.
I seem to catch him off guard since he looks at me with a confused expression, unsure of what I'm talking about. My hand reaches for his, lingering over the beads. I could feel my eyes tear up and X only makes it worse by cupping my cheek and brushing away the tears.
I try reaching for him but he stops me with a shake of his head. "It hurts." He says. "It still hurts to look at you."
I took a step back in shock.
His words managed to reopen wounds I much rather have not wanted to deal with. I look away not wanting to look him in the eyes.
Instead he suddenly pulled me closer. "Flor, let me borrow your chest." He whispers.
My eyes widen when he pressed his forehead against my heart, it was beating so fast I was sure he heard it. Swallowing my fear I wrapped my arms around him.
God, give us more time, I prayed that night.
