He hated the feeling in his chest. He hated it with every fiber of his being, because it was fear. And the reason for that fear, was you. He feared you more than ever and that infuriated him.

He feared you because from the moment your eyes met in the white tower when you brought your dad in, his heart began to beat again, just when he thought it had gone cold.

He saw the tears streaming down your face as they told you that your father had passed away, he saw the pain in your eyes, and the weirdest part was that he could feel it too. He could feel your pain, and he wanted nothing more than to take it all away. He wanted to take a complete strangers pain away, and it perplexed him in ways he couldn't explain.

A year later and the two of you were closer than ever, but he backed away from you recently. He didn't call, or text, or stop by and tell you he missed you. You and your father moved to hemlock grove to get away from the chaos of your life back home, and now he was gone, and Roman was the only one who made you feel ok again.

You didn't rely on him, you were stronger than that, but it hurt like hell when he wasn't around. It hurt because you were in love with him, and he didn't know.

He sat in his living room, thoughts clouding his mind as he debated calling you. Maybe he was a coward, when it came to you at least, but he couldn't stand not talking to you. He couldn't stand what was happening.

He got up, gathering up the courage he desperately needed, and clicking your name in his contact list. Your phone buzzed, and you lazily stretched out with a groan, grabbing it. 'Guess the book will have to wait' you thought, placing your novel next to you.

Your heart sank as you saw the name on your screen. It was Roman. You waited a moment, before answering it. "What do you want?" You asked, coming off a little more agitated than you had intended.

His voice made your cheeks heat up as he spoke, and you felt yourself falling all over again. What an odd emotion love is. "Listen, I know I don't deserve forgiveness, I've been an asshole and I know that, but I need to talk to you. Please come over so I can...so I can explain everything." He said, a hint of what sounded like fear in his voice.

You thought for a moment, taking in the tone of his words. Roman never sounded like that, and you felt in your heart that it was important. "Ok I'll be there." You said, hanging the phone up.

You looked down, realizing you'd have to trade in your pajamas for a pair of skinny jeans and an oversized sweater. Ironically, the sweater was one of Romans that he had given to you because he knew how much you loved the material.

It took you around 20 minutes to arrive, and you felt your stomach in your throat as you prepared yourself to see him again. Even though it hadn't been that long, when you two were away from each other it felt like an eternity.

You parked and got out, keys in hand as you walked to the door, knocking four times on the hard wood. His ears perked up as he heard the knocks, and for the first time in his living hell of a life-he was nervous.
