You approach the familiar lake with your heart flourishing, a smile glued onto your face as you notice a bloomed pink flower floating along the blue surface. That's how you know he's waiting for you, he's set a flower out for you for the past week. Each day you've visited him there's been a newfound feeling that grows in your chest, and each time you see him you're in even more awe. It doesn't subside, and you'll never get used to it, you're sure of that.

You set your bag down on the damp ground in your usual spot, eyes scanning the clear water to find any sign of the man. You notice movement to your left and so you turn your head, squinting your eyes as you strain to recognize what it might be. But just as you get closer to the water in an attempt to make out what you saw, something furiously emerges from the water, hands clasping over your ankles.

You let out a yelp and look down just as the large hands unclasp, and a familiar, bubbly warm laugh fills your ears as you see the smiling countenance of Bill, his hair pushed back out of his eyes as he looks up at you. "You should have seen the look on your face, you were so scared." Your hand is placed to your chest, your breathing regulating as you realize it wasn't some monster ready to drag you under.

"Not funny! I almost died." Evidently people of his kind don't understand sarcasm to that extent, and you have to do a double take at his horrified expression. "That was a joke! It was a figure of speech, I'm fine." You say with a giggle, leaning down to his level and looking into his wide green eyes. "Oh, oh! Sorry, sorry." He chuckles, looking down and back up at you; though his green eyes widen when he sees you removing your pants.

He immediately turns around, rubbing the side of his face to snap himself out of the heated daze he's in. You giggle from behind him. "You don't have to turn around Bill, I'm more covered up than I would be in a bathing suit. Besides, haven't you seen me get undressed before?" You step into the cool water, the feeling making goosebumps rise on your exposed skin.

He turns back to face your figure, which is now beside him, his eyebrows furrowed. "Whenever I saw you getting undressed I'd always look away, isn't that what you're supposed to do in order to respect a strangers privacy?" Dear god could he be any more amazing. Your heart feels warm, butterflies in your stomach making you dizzy. "If only human men were like you." You giggle, wading out into the center of the lake as he dips down under the water to follow you.

He emerges behind you, and for a split second the magnetic heat of his body takes your breath away. "So y/n, why did you start coming here? I'm sure you have more acquaintances than just me." He swims in front of you, only two feet away from you at most. You chuckle at his comment, avoiding eye contact or else you might melt into nothing. He has that effect on you.

"Well, I guess it started when I had to move away from home. My parents split up and my dad became an alcoholic, he left my mom and then she got remarried and my life has never been the same since. I'm in school for creative writing, and I have one close best friend."

It almost makes you want to scream how transparent you're being, but it's as if you can't help it. When you look at him there's this force that makes you feel as if you can tell him everything you've ever thought. "I am sorry you went through that, you don't deserve that at all. But I am glad you have a close friend. Are they in school with you?" He asks, circling you with a curious smile. "That's how we met actually, she spends the night at my apartment every week." You giggle as you try and keep up with his rotations.

"So how did you get here? And where are you from?" You ask, sudden thoughts swimming through your head about him and his life; which is probably a hell of a lot more interesting than yours. "I migrated here from the Aegean Sea in Greece, much like you, to get away from a family life that wasn't so great." He begins, looking thoughtfully down into the water before speaking again.

"I am half human, which means that I can live out of water, but not for long. I can spend five hours on land at maximum, but then my body starts to shut down. Naturally, my father wondered how two full blooded gorgónas created a child with a human face and torso, and he soon figured out my mother was not faithful to him. He banished me."

His eyes seem to turn dark blue as he speaks, and your heart aches profoundly as you look across from you at his solemn expression. "He banished you? For something that wasn't even your fault?" You almost whisper it, voice shocked and empathetic. "I guess even your own kind can be cruel." A small smile breaks across his face as he looks at you, a smile full of sadness.

"Well I think you're perfect just the way you are. If you were any different you wouldn't be you." Your eyes meet like the sun to the horizon, and it's almost like you can see waves in his irises. You speak again. "Gorgónas, is that the name for your species?" His ears quirk up as he swims closer. "It means mermaid. But I think that term is kind of...outdated." You both laugh in sync, like two warm melodies making music out of the other.

"I think so too. So does that mean that gorgónas don't naturally look like....you?" You ask, and he can tell you're trying not to be offensive, provoking another laugh from his chest as his heart palpitates just a little more than it already was. "Full blooded ones are hard to describe, they-definitely don't look anything like humans. I think you'd be terrified if you saw one." You squint your eyes playfully, reaching an arm out to poke his nose.

"Oh yea? I think I'd be fine." You reply, making him chuckle again and swim even closer to you. "So you're not scared of me at all? Not even a little bit?" His tone is seemingly innocent and teasing, one of his eyebrows quirking up as you both swim circles around each other. "Nope." You pop the 'P' with a humorous smile, your faces so close you can smell the scent of French lavender that seems to have a permanent residency on his skin.

In just seconds you feel a pair of strong arms wrapping around you, both of you submerging underneath the water; a gasp leaving your lips. You don't even get a chance to open your eyes before you feel a plush pair of lips on your own, and for a moment you completely forget you're even under water at all. Your body is pressed against his own, and your legs seem to naturally wrap around his toned middle as you hang onto him by his broad, smooth shoulders.

Your lips move together as if they were meant to do so since the beginning of time, and it's halfway through that you realize; you haven't had to take a breath, as a matter of a fact, you don't feel water between the kiss at all. You break away for a moment, looking at him with wide eyes. The water has seemed to encapsulate around you both, giving you two a private bubble of air that begins at the top of your heads and ends at your chests.

"D-did you do this?" You ask in awe, jaw slack as you look around. "I did. I can do a few cool things, you know." He chuckles, your eyes moving back to focus on him. Him. That's all you can see, all you can feel. You smash your lips to his again, feeling so much need to stay connected to him, it's overwhelming.

"I don't want to be away from you." You take a deep breath as you depart, your foreheads and noses pressed together. He has to gather himself in several ways, it's like a flower trying not to wilt under the brightness of the sun. "I could come back with you. Five hours, just us. I could come back here at dusk and you could sleep and then we could do it all over again." He pecks your lips, smiling against them. You'll never get over the feeling of them, soft and supple and cloud like.

"Are you sure? If we lose track of time-" he stops you, stroking your cheek with the smooth pad of his thumb. "We won't. I'll only go if you want me to." He says, his big eyes peering into yours with all of the hope in the world. "Of course I want you to go. We have to get out of the water first, though." You giggle, and as soon as the words leave your mouth, you're both darting towards the surface in each others arms.
