The sign seemed to be flying towards me in the wind. Gliding. Towards me. Finally making a move backward I was met with resistance. The wind was too strong. The sign picked up speed suddenly as the wind pushed it up, as though it had bounced off the ground in front of me. I shut my eyes. Not wanting to see my impending doom or perhaps just protecting my eyes from the harsh wind and flying debris. I heard a shatter that seemed to come from all sides. What felt like tiny stones began to shower around me. Turning around I saw the sign so completely shattered that one could barely tell what it had ever been before. Specks of sharp plastic whirled around it as the wind, once again, calmed down. I felt light-headed, but couldn't tell if it was completely the fault of the sign as dehydration is a state that I am daily in. (Being forgetful and whatnot)
Surprisingly I was not all that bothered with not contacting the authorities. It was night and after the dilemma of losing my hat my brain had pretty much given up on these debates with itself. My ears had gradually numbed in the wind and the right was now aching. (Which is probably why I hadn't noticed the blood trickling from my ear) Cutting through someone's yard I was finally on the street I lived on. The front gate had been left unhinged and was at the mercy of the wind. Timing my entrance, I moved past the gate as it started swinging open so I didn't have to take my hands out of the warmth of my pockets. I jumped up the front steps to the front door, turning the knob it swung open hitting the wall. I tripped into the warm air as I wrestled the door shut.
"I'm home!" The lights were off. Were they not home yet? Slipping off my jacket, I felt the wall for a light switch and flicking it the lights remained off. I let out an audible "Ooh" as I remembered the blackout. "Did you bring any food?" A moving light asked from the kitchen. It was Cyrus no doubt having the time of his life with the flashlights. "Oh, sorry Cy. There were some extras I just forgot to bring-HEY!" He beamed the light at my face. "I'm gonna take that away-" "Are you bleeding?" He interrupted with a strange sound of panic in his voice, being terrified of blood and whatnot. Not being able to see his face let alone follow his gaze, I brought my hand to my right ear which had been aching since earlier. It was ice cold, but no hint of blood. "I meant that one!" He showed the flashlight on my face again. "I said not to do that!" He moved the light to the ground. "Sorry-sorry! But you can't feel that?" I reached for my left ear and was met with another icy surface but this time it was wet. I brought my hand in front of the light. It was red. "Oh"
"Are you going to die?!" Cyrus almost yelled which didn't exactly sit well with my aching right ear. "Alright, whose the one bleeding here? If I'm not panicking you better not even start!" I said back a bit harsher than I had intended but knew it was best not to take it back. "Just bring the light into the bathroom." he, of course, responded to this with a loud "Ewwwww!" I snapped back at him, "I need you so I can see it! What were you thinking?"
"Oh, ok."

Authors Note:
I have quite a bit of HW I need to get done before I go to work tonight, but I can't focus with distractions of any kind. So knowing I wouldn't be productive in my studies (with two distractions one starting with an H and the other with an A) I decided to spend my time on a more "WORTHY" use of time.
Will probably write again before I turn in for the night. But we shall see, for one can never be sure of the future. (Like I might die today, but I'll try not to)
