To Where it all Began

I stared dumbly at the mud below my foot. The calm had passed but an aftereffect was present within me. Besides my eyes refocusing I noticed that the world began to appear less... blue. I lazily shifted my eyes towards where the light was most potent. The wish bracelet. Its vividness slowly began to falter as the light died down.

"Wait, what?"

with the sound of my words, the light gave off its calming glow one last time before it muddled back. "No, wait. come back." I said as I pulled my right wrist close with my left hand. I was talking to a ribbon. The realization sent my arm away, back to its original position. Trying to think of something else that wouldn't mark me as clinically insane, I turned to my foot wrapped in the poor quality sweat material. That's right. The pain was gone. My feet felt a weird warmth which I hadn't realized to be normal. Bringing my foot close I unwrapped it. I nearly jumped, about to fall face first into the mud. It wasn't a deadman's foot anymore. Rapping it back up, I felt a similar warmth in my other foot. I decided against checking it, in fear that the warmth would disperse in the cold air. There was a feeling in the air around me that I hadn't been able to pinpoint exactly until now. Deja vu. But when did it happen before?

Climbing back up the cliff, I aimlessly wandered through the woods. I didn't know what I was looking for but felt a strange pull to keep going. "I'll know it when I see it..." kept running through my head reassuringly. It felt like I had forgotten something important and that I needed to find it. Badly. Finally anew sound came to my ears. Splashing water. I knew what it was now. Picking up the pace, tripping and regaining my footing the whole way, I followed the sound of the ocean. Entering the small clearing I was back.

Back to my first introduction to this strange place. The tree I had been leaning against after assuming I had drowned. I couldn't stop myself from reaching out and touching it. The calm lightly washed over me. Turning my attention to the small cliff I had hidden behind, well fallen behind, I saw something that sent a shiver down my spine. A patch of blackened burned or decayed grace in a shape that took me awhile to figure out. I felt like it was still there above the dead patch, eyeing me and ready to kill. The next connection caused a sense of dread within me. The place where the patch was. It was where one would imagine it to be if...

I shut my mouth tight despite not saying anything, to begin with, but trying to stop myself from saying the word that hung on my tongue.

"It was still there." I finally spoke, feeling a need to break the dark silence. It had been gnawing away at me even after I thought I had gotten rid of it.

The wolf.

It wasn't dead.
