A Call to Action

I had fallen asleep almost as soon as the candles went out but soon found myself awake again in the soft darkness. A whistle had alerted me as I sat up on the hard stone. It was thrill and high like that buzzing sound one hears around electronics. I moved to the edge of the platform in the dark as I heard hurried footsteps down the corridor. My eyelids felt heavy as I felt my way through the dark room to the heavy curtain acting in place of a door. I parted it slightly, allowing torchlight into the otherwise pitch dark room. Hidding myself I saw two young boys with swords at their side bolt down the catacomb. Whatever was going on had to have been one of the quietest fire alarms I have ever witness. Almost to ridicule my assumption a loud scream suddenly echoed through the walls causing me to jump back. I felt a harsh wind tear down the walkway, fiercely ruffling the heavy curtain that was the only barrier between me and whatever it was. A howl echoed over the scream and filled my ears. I shuddered. The wolves.

Minnie had gone from completely out of it to by my side with a sword before the noise subsided. Pushing back the curtain, she grabbed my wrist momentarily dragging me behind her. "Come on!" She yelled finally letting go. I kept pace with her despite the growing pain from spraining my ankle earlier. Catching up with a couple kids I'd never seen before, we filtered back in the room I had first entered earlier that evening. Silver was sitting on the floor towards the back of the room, his eyes closed. Marc was in front of him pacing back and forth. The kids that entered before us quickly reported. Without opening his eyes, Silver said "The western hold has been compromised or is about to be. Move anyone you find." Marc had kept up his pacing even after seeing the two of us. "Reporting, situation?" Minnie stepped forward blocking off Marc's path. "They're aware of the west, and soon the rest of the base if they don't already know. And," This Marc added more out of spite than usefulness eyeing silver, "Someone won't allow me to handle the situation." I glanced at Silver, he looked like he was in a state of meditation. Taking a good look I figured he was just a little younger than me, despite his completely silver hair. I felt a strange sense of pity for him at that moment before his eyes shot opened catching my staring. I yelped jumping back, ignoring this he turned his gaze to Minnie. "We might need you." His words sounded as though he was ripping off an old band-aid. Minnie took a deep breath before ultimately nodding. "I'm at your disposal. Where do you need me?"

"The old base's entrance, we're going to try and disorient them." Minnie nodded. Already understanding the plan of attack, she turned and took off before anyone could say a word of disapproval. As I looked after her, Silver spoke again, "Marc assist the wolf-slayer in the west." Facing them I could see Marc as he was just about to complain, before silver cut him off, "She needs to be around people better than her before being left alone. Unless," Silver said gravely, "You think she's already better than you?"
