I awoke lazily as light filtered into the still room. I rolled onto my side and then into a sitting position. Rubbing the upper arm that I slept on, which had now gone numb, I could feel and see the layer of dirt shedding off it and into the air. Starring at my filthy hands, which were still annoying cuffed, I took a deep breath. Bored and filthy. What more could I ask for? As I attempted to move my hair out of my face without getting dirt in my eyes I heard a noise behind me. I froze, only turning after the noise had paused. It was in the direction of where I thought the door was. Rising to my feet the light tapping came again. Looking around quickly I mimicked the rhythm on one of the solid beams lining the wall. A new rhythm. I copied it again, then waited. Nothing.
"When they summon you, there'll be an opening. Take it." The voice was hushed and urgent.
"What about the people who work here?" That was the only thing holding me back from already escaping. (I mean besides food, but that's not important right now!)
There was an uncomfortable pause, so awkwardly long that I feared the voice had altogether abandoned me to deal with my problems on my own.
"I already thought of something, just focus on your escape." Before I could even wonder what they had come up with I noticed the shift in the atmosphere. They were gone. The voice had been so hushed that the identity of its owner was a complete mystery.
Should I trust him?

They wouldn't dare touch me. I was filthy. Covered in diseases and sin. Who would dare touch the sick child lying in filth, it's face so caked with mud and sand that some didn't even recognize the grubby little creature as human, spitting on it in the way you do evil things or things you have disdain for. Mother will protect me, she's just busy right now.
Too busy for her little girl?
Stop it! You've never met her! How would you know?
If I had not met her, you wouldn't be in such a pitiable state right now.
She would never abandon me... she wouldn't...
Who are you to act so innocently? Don't you know that this is all your fault? Who do you think brought me to her..?
The grubby little girl, who was much smaller than a ten-year-old should be, adamantly covered her ears rocking back and forth in the filth. She mustn't listen. She mustn't cry. She must become strong. Like her mother.

Soon after the voice had left I began pacing the room. What sort of opening would there be when I'm 'summoned'? I still had Regal's key to my cuffs but had been unable to bring myself to use them yet. It's too premature, gotta keep my mind clear. Taking a deep breath again, after realizing I had unconsciously been holding mine, I heard the door slide open as Regal with his possi came filling in. "The Emperess has summoned you for an audience." Regal announced before adding, as a snide comment, "and please, be wary of your actions, as they reflect the very lives of every person that resigns in this area." I tilted my head, feeling the urge to make his uneasiness towards me even more prominent. "Would dream of it," I said with a smile that I knew looked as though I knew what I was doing. I had no clue what I was doing. However, the look on Regal's face as he left was honestly worth the act. The possi remained though, turning their noses up at the mere sight of me. At first, I took offense until I remembered I was filthy.
"Yeah, I'm gross. Can you leave now?"
One girl rolled her eyes while motioning for one to come forward and uncuff me. When the shackles came off I began to messages my raw wrist and slip off the filthy Uni jacket. Which the girls all regarded with more disgust than it probably deserved. Okay..?
***
Before the group of maids helped me get ready to meet the Emperess, (which, trust me, was just as weird and uncomfortable as it sounds), I had managed to slip the key out of the Uni jacket. Which in turn I managed to get back on my person after a change of clothes and, I'll have to admit grateful, change of shoes. I've never been big on clothes and stuff like that but I will say this: I like these shoes and, if I can, I'm going to find a way to bring them back home with me. Shortly after whatever that was, Regal returned to take me to the Emperess. When he first walked in he looked like a lost child before returning back to his usual demeanor.
"Welcome back, oh well-hated friend!" I smiled at him, knowing my only weapons were my words.
Without a word he nodded towards the door, causing everyone to file out; leading a small sort of procession. I tried to take up the rear, but of course, the great Regal needed that position. Trying my best to see everything as we made our way presumably to the Empresses, I looked for the opening. There has to be something out of place. Something I would notice. I could sense that we were getting very close to where the Emperess was. Would the opening be before or after the meeting? What if I miss my chance? My frantic eyes were starting to give me away. I shut them in an effort to calm down. Why was I getting so worked up about this?
We had stopped, I opened my eyes. The entrance to the great hall I had never seen before. That opening better be after the meeting...

A/N
You know I use to wonder why people write stories, especially when they have writing assignments to do or school books to read and I think I know the answer now. (Being that I have writing assignments to do and books I need to read)
"Because we don't have to."
That's it. Since no one is forcing you to write a story you can feel that sense of freedom you don't get when writing an essay.
Anyways I nearly wrote 1,000 words today, but I felt the story drag a bit (or I could sense the impending drag if I pushed for more words) so forgive me for only posting 950 something words tonight :p
Alright well I hope who ever finds themself reading this story late at night or right before going to bed has a goodnight. I will see all you daydreamers later! GOODNIGHT!!! :D
