One more day and she would be free. She just had to suffer for one more day. She sat alone, the darkness of the woods surrounding her. Alone. Every sound seemed to fade into the background as she cried silently. One more day till it will be all over. The pain. The guilt. Everything. But one thing kept tugging at the back of her mind. The only thing that kept her going for so long. Her brother.
The thought seemed to part the sensory certain that had surrounded her just as a sound filled her ears. She looked up, someone, or something, had broken a twig nearby. She slammed her back against the tree out of shock. Only a few steps in front of her stood a person still hidden in the shadows.
"Are-are you hurt?" He stepping forward hesitantly. The moonlight bouncing off his tan skin.

I stared at Minnie suspiciously before nodding. I started getting my socks and shoes on.
"Come on," I said without looking up from my laces. "Now? Can't we wait till tomorrow." Her serious attitude from earlier had completely disappeared. Now she just wanted to take advantage of the wonder that is an electric blanket. "Yes, now. Tomorrow I have work all day and we don't even know whether the place changes or not."
Minnie let out a soft sigh before grabbing a pair of fluffy socks. "I'm taking these."
Taking a flashlight, I snuck out with Minnie close behind me. It was only a little past ten but the whole family was asleep or doing something in their own rooms. As I closed the front door behind us I was grateful for the winter coat and hiking boots I had decided to put on. When the wind wasn't going crazy I could see my breath and tried multiple times to see Minnie's, but it just wasn't there. What was there was Minnie's concern expression at what I was wearing.
"Are you really that cold?"
She had the socks stuffed in her pants pockets. Which, I won't lie, I had no idea were there. As we walked in the relative darkness, save for a few buzzing street lights, my thoughts kept drifting to the wish bracelet. I was in southern Poland two years ago. Nothing about the exchange stood out. It was just a flat blue ribbon with black letters in a language I couldn't understand. I barely even knew it was a wish bracelet if not for the use of google translate and the very persistent young girl.
A wish bracelet. I knew what it was vaguely. When it fell off I could make a wish, but would it come true? The thought of it falling off felt as foreign as a finger falling off. Suddenly I bumped into Minnie who had stopped in front of me.
"It's still here."
Across the street behind the dry cleaners was the vacant spot where the bowling sign once stood. I grabbed a hold of Minnie's wrist and started crossing the street. I had no doubt that if I hadn't grabbed ahold of her she would have never moved.
The wind was getting more and more aggressive, so much so that even my usual quick pace felt slow. There was a strange itch around my right wrist as we finally got to the sidewalk on the other side, standing before the vacant spot. Almost like a chemical reaction, it burst to life, flashing in an array of colors and sounds. I felt a shiver run down my spine. Minnie suddenly snapped into action as well, except she was pulling me away from it. She moved so quickly, and with the force of the wind to her back, managed to literally drag me away back across the street.
"What are you doing?!"
I couldn't help from shouting as I scrambled to my feet. Minnie's eyes were crazed with fear as she breathed hard. There was pain and anger in her expression as she glanced desperately up at me from the concrete ground. Unable to think or say anything.
