Strength and Weakness

My eyes shot open realizing the danger nearby. Despite the hands holding me down, I rose to my feet easily. That's right, this wasn't a dream! It never has been. Staring solemnly in the direction of the howls I reprocessed the world I was in once again. I had been scared one moment bored the next, fearing for my life then ready to die. It wasn't right but it wasn't wrong. This was not my world but neither was the other. The panic around me faded into background noise. What was happening to me? I can't die! If I do who will- who will what? The answer was on the tip of my tongue but I still couldn't find it. Staring blankly for what felt like an eternity I was finally snapped out of it by the first appearance of the dreaded wolves. I couldn't back down. They had gathered at the top of the hill facing the road below. Directly at me. I mustn't back down. Taking a good look at them I realized their true appearance. Dark wisp of wind formed the body of a wolf nearly the size of a horse. Strong and fierce. It was surrounded on all sides by wolves of the same kind but smaller though not of normal size. I parted my lips to speak. There was nothing to say. What could I possibly say? The thoughts ran through my mind like bullets. Just run! But I couldn't back down. The word resting on the tip of my tongue. It would stop them. It had the power to stop them. Stepping forward between the cart and the wolves I felt a wave of calm. I had found the word. It came from my mouth so fluently I scared myself. It was harsh yet smooth, terrifying yet perfect in every way. Although I spoke it just above a whisper the wolves reacted differently. They growled shrinking back in fear or perhaps in preparation to pounce. I step forward saying the word again, louder this time. Their growls grew quiet as they continued to shrink back. Not missing a beat I stepped forward again, yelling the word. A howl filled the air as the wolves combined into a single large wisp of darkness shooting through the air straight at me.

I should have been terrified. I should have screamed. But I could only stand there still in the mindset that this was all just a dream. The snake-like smoke coiled around me. A pulse of blue suddenly created a barrier between me and the dark smoke. It swirled rapidly, thrashing against the strange light before letting out one final howl as it shot into the sky dispersing in all directions. After a couple seconds the light that had once surrounded me transformed into a small glow before completely going out. Turning away from the hill to leave I remembered where I was. My stomach made a low grumble. I sighed loudly. "If this was just a dream I wouldn't be so freaking hungry right now!" I felt a poke at the back of my neck. A bug bite? NOW? I just defeated a pack of wolves and I can't get rid of bugs. I spun 'round hoping to catch the little pest.

The carriage. That's right. I stopped a hunter, but they were going to kill me. They...

Manbun stood between the carriage and me, holding his hands behind his back in a satisfactory kind of matter.

"YOU!" I yelled in rage before realizing why. I hurled myself at him but tripped. Falling in to pitch black darkness.

I had been poisoned.

A/N

Hello all! Hopefully yesterday's chapter wasn't a long and painful one to read! I'm thinking it might be safer for me just to keep it between 500 - 800 for the time being so as to keep the story moving. The world has been planned out and worked through so hopefully we'll get to explore it now and into the future.

See ya tomorrow! (Don't forget to check out Shattered Glass ;D )
