-FlashBack-
"And?" the empress asked after the eunuch had finished. His eyes shifting in a silent fearful way. The empress only eased back into her chair. "So my dear son Luca decides to pay his mother a visit before doing what she asks of him?" she went on mockingly, "and what? Expects me to welcome him with open arms?" The eunuch shifted under her gaze. The smile had fallen from her face, "Tell the mighty crown prince that the only crown he'll see if he doesn't wipe out those Uni from our land will be the one placed on Marc's head." She let out a short laugh before waving her hand away. The eunuch, though trembling, stood and backed out of the room feeling death knocking at the door. If he told the prince what the empress had said he had no doubt in his mind he would be killed. A mere peasant's son inheriting the throne! Just the thought had made the already tired empress laugh.
But it had made another laugh.
Someone hiding in the shadows.
Her voice cracking in an inhuman way yet the world seemed to hold its breath just for her.
As the sound of birds returned and the wind began to blow again the voice had vanished along with its owner.

"PUT IT ON!" the white-haired boy yelled facing the young girl. Her face was twisted with anger, grief, and fear. "You said it started because of this!" Losing his temper he shoved the silver ring in her face, she looked away distastefully. "What?" silver asked as his face slipped into a smile that held no joy. "Traded? Stolen? Missing? Do you want to die?!" The girl stood still saying nothing as her vision started to blur with tears, her eyelids twitching.
"no." she whispered. Finally looking to her older brother she wanted to go on but knew she would only sob. 'But I want you to live...' was what she wanted to say.
"Mira put the ring back on." His voice was softer but still angry, she shook her head.
Silver grabbed her left wrist and, despite her trying to pull away, he lifted it to her face. Her ring finger was bruised with a small crescent moon. "Do you know what today is?" the white hair boy asked shaking Mira's arm to stop her from pulling away, but she still pulled free starring her brother straight in the eyes.
They stood together in silence.
"You've gone mad," Soul said softly all the anger replaced with grief. "You," he paused to steady his breath,
"You want to leave me too?"
-Present-
As Marc turned his back to me, with the bore over his shoulders I quickly turned back to the brush where I had stashed the knife. I knew there was no way to retrieve it now without Marc knowing. Wait. Why does it even matter if Marc knows about the knife or the gun wielder? There was no answer, only a feeling. Glancing from the bush back to Marc, I realized what the feeling was.
Watching.
