Stable

Ever since Avi took his step back from Pentatonix, and the group hired Matt, Kirstie found herself needing control over something. It was all a lot of change at one time, and she just started to feel suffocated.

Whether it be that she slept in the same hoodie, or played the same playlist in her car, or followed the same workout schedule week after week, she was in a constant search of something to be stable, for something to not change.

And this week was no different, she wore one of her favorite sweaters, leggings, black converse (also a stable staple of her's), and went out to rehearsal and to run whatever errands she needed to run for that day.

They were actually recording that day, and Kirstie was third recording room from the right.

Stability.

"Good morning, Queen." Mitch smiled as she came into the door of the recording studios.

"Good morning." She gladly accepted the coffee he had handed her. "Thanks."

"Morning!" Scott called from down the hall.

"Good morning!" Kirstie chuckled. "Where is Matt? Is he late again?" Mitch nodded. That wasn't something that was uncommon. Kirstie shook her head, but sat down and enjoyed the quiet for just a moment. She needed that.

Eventually, Matt did show up, and they did get the song recorded, and a good two-thirds of another arranged. They were on the perfect track for a successful tour and album.

Kirstie got back into her car after recordings and ran her usual grocery shopping errands before heading home and snuggling up with her puppies.

She jumped slightly when her phone chimed, ruining the silence of the whole moment. She noticed it was a text from Avi.

I know its late, but do you want to come over? I finally subscribed to Netflix. Movie night?

Kirstie smiled and replied back with a simple answer.

Sure. I'll be over in ten.

She stood up from the couch, put on shoes, put her hair up into a messy bun and then grabbed her keys and started towards Avi's. She arrived about ten minutes later.

"Hey." Avi smiled and gave her a hug as he opened the door.

"Hi." Kirstie smiled.

"Come on in. Want anything to eat or drink?"

"No, I'm okay, thank you though."

Avi nodded before disappearing to the kitchen. "Pick whatever you want!" He called. Kirstie laughed, but quickly selected Grey's Anatomy. It seemed like a good show they could binge. Also one of their favorites.

Stability.

Avi came back moments later with two glasses of water. He handed one to Kirstie. "Just in case."

"Thanks."

A few episodes in, Avi noticed that Kirstie had been a little spacey. Sure, they small talked their way through the first couple episodes, but even then, even when talking about music, about her passion, she seemed off. He also noticed how she kept fidgeting. She'd even out the strings on her hoodie every ten seconds, she'd constantly press her glasses farther up the bridge of her nose, she'd continue to turn her glass so that it was right in the center of the coaster beside her.

"Okay," Avi paused the show. "I know you're always such a perfectionist, but you're never this fidgety. Are you good?"

"Yeah, I'm alright." Kirstie looked up at him. "It's just that nothing is stable right now, so everything I can put in order, I will."

"Your life is lacking stability?"

"Just a little bit."

"Why?" Avi titled his head.

"Because ever since you left, everything has been changing so quickly! Now we have Matt, and he's always late, it's just little things like that. Like, you were never late, and I could count on that, I have not too much to count on anymore because everything is changing way too drastically way too quickly." She sighed.

He knew it was his anxiety calling the shots, but he couldn't help but feel guilty for this. His leaving flipped some sort of a switch, and now Kirstie isn't Kirstie.

But somehow, Kirstie knew what he was thinking. "It's not your fault, seriously. I'm just not good at adapting to change." Kirstie laughed and Avi nodded. They fell into a silence, another episode filling the room.

Hours passed, still in silence. Until Avi spoke up. "I want to help."

"With what?" Kirstie paused the current episode.

"Your whole stability thing. I want to help keep you as safe and together as I possibly can."

Kirstie smiled. It was a very Avi thing to do. He always wanted the best for everyone, no matter who they were. "And how do you suppose you do that?"

Avi shrugged. "I'll come up with something. But for now, it's late. Go get some sleep. You know I'm always here, standing by if you need to talk." Kirstie nodded and gave him a hug.

"Goodnight, Av."

"Goodnight." He kissed her forehead, and something in the moment brought his lips to hers. He'd always wanted to kiss her, he just never found the chance to. This was the chance. Kirstie gasped when his lips connected with her own. They separated quickly after, both half smiling.

"Goodnight, Avriel." Kirstie said once more before leaving. Kirstie took a deep breath once in the safety and familiarity of her own car. She thought for a minute before concluding that if that would become something stable in her life, she definitely wouldn't mind.
