Thank you, morningthunderstorms
"Kev, what'cha doing in here?" Esther asked, sitting beside her friend. The rest of the group was in the kitchen, talking about and finalizing tour plans. "We have work to do."
"I-I don't feel too well, Es." Kevin whispered, placing his head in his hands.
"Stop that. You're fine." Esther snapped. Kevin looked up from his hands. "This tour leaves in forty eight hours, and I get this is a tight schedule, and I get that you're tired, but faking sick to get out of it is low, Kevin."
Tears pricked the corners of Kevin's eyes, but he forced them back. "No, you're right. I'll be right there."
"Perfect." Esther stood up from the sofa.
Kevin took a deep breath, and stood up on his weak and shaking legs, and headed into the kitchen. "Hey, sorry, I needed a quick breather." Kevin mumbled, taking his seat back at the table.
"No worries, Kev, we're all a bit stressed." Matt pat the beatboxer's back.
"Thanks, Man." Kevin smiled gently.
"Alright, let's get back into it, yeah?" Scott clapped, making Kevin tense up; the loud voice made his head hurt even more.
The group continued talking about the upcoming tour. Words about teasing the new Christmas album in the middle of the show, and talks of maybe performing a brand new cover were being thrown around. Kevin heard nothing but white noise. "Kev, what do you think?" Kirstie asked.
"What? I'm sorry." Kevin looked up.
"A new cover of Love Lies. We'd just do an excerpt from the song for a surprise on the tour." Kirstie repeated the plan.
"Oh, yeah, that's fine. Sounds--" Kevin stopped very quickly.
"You okay?" Mitch asked, seeing the color drain from Kevin's face.
"Yeah, he's fine. We have to figure this out." Esther almost snapped once more.
Out of nowhere, Kevin shot up from his chair and ran to the bathroom in Scott and Mitch's apartment. "Kevin?" Kirstie stood up and ran to the door. "Love, are you alright?" Kirstie cringed when she heard Kevin gagging and heaving from the other side of the door. Kirstie slowly opened the door and almost cried at the sight of Kevin shaking on his knees on the bathroom tile. Kirstie rubbed his back, and stood back up to the kitchen. There, she grabbed a glass of water and some medicine to help settle his stomach.
"Did he get sick?" Scott asked, and Kirstie nodded, heading back to the bathroom with the things she had grabbed. Scott turned back to Esther. "Don't think that we didn't hear what you said in the living room! He's throwing up in that bathroom right now! Why are you being so insensitive?!"
Esther adjusted her glasses back onto the bridge of her nose. "We have to get this done! We leave in--"
"Esther!" Matt scolded their manager. "Kevin is sick, alright? He obviously needs a break! Can't you see that?"
Meanwhile, Kirstie was kneeling on the cold tile beside her bandmate in the bathroom. "You good now, Love?" Kirstie whispered. Kevin nodded, and Kirstie helped him stand up. His knees didn't even fully straighten until he collapsed back against the wall, being supported by Kirstie's arms. "Here, sit back down, Kev." It was only seconds later before Kevin was lurching back over the toilet to throw up once more. "Aw, you poor thing. Do you want anything else?" Kirstie asked him after he had gotten himself cleaned up.
"No, I'm fine. I have to go back." Kevin shook his head.
"No, Kevin, that's crazy. You need to rest before tour. You're so sick that you haven't even been focusing today. You need to go home and get better." Kirstie told him. "Yeah?"
Kevin shook his head. "Esther doesn't believe me that I'm sick, and I can't miss tour, and I can't make her mad, and--"
"Shh, shh, I don't want you getting sick again, yeah?" Kirstie stood up, telling Kevin she'll be right back.
Minutes later, Esther showed up in the bathroom, replacing where Kirstie was kneeling. "Kev, I'm sorry that I didn't believe you." Kevin didn't respond. He didn't want to hear it. "Please, Kevin." Esther begged, tears coming to her eyes. "I didn't mean to make you so sick and push you so hard."
"Why didn't you listen to me?" Kevin asked quietly.
"I don't know, Kevin. I'm stressed, and I'm just trying to get this tour perfect now that we're without Avi, and...I'm sorry." Esther told Kevin. Kevin slowly nodded, accepting her apology. "Listen, I'll take you home, yeah? You're in no condition to be driving." Kevin also nodded to this.
He slowly stood up all the way and used Esther as a human crutch. "Thank you." He told the manager when she got him safely to the car.
"Of course." They drove in silence, Kevin falling in and out of sleep on the way there. "Take care, please." Esther told Kevin once she got him inside and comfortable in bed.
"I will." Kevin mumbled, falling asleep.
