And double update!

It was a genuinely petty conversation. One of those cliches you see in Hallmark films. Scott and Mitch were over at Avi and my apartment. I got them over here while Avi was out so that I could finally tell them that Avi and I had been dating.

"How long have you loved him?" Scott asked, just trying to get a rise out of me. I chuckled, we'd been hiding this whole relationship for nearly a year and a half now.

"How long?" He nodded. "Alright, Scott, I'll tell you what, I've loved Avi from here--" I started to mark the starting point of my love for the bass with my left hand, until we were cut off by Kevin basically kicking in our door, and storming in here.

"Woah, what's wrong?" I turned around, and Scott, Mitch, and I stood up.

Kevin just stood there, paralyzed in what I guessed was fear, because he looked pretty scared to me.

"Kev, what happened?" I stepped closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. My mind started racing to every possible conclusion. "Wait, Kevin, where's Avi, didn't you two go and buy a guitar or something like that?"

"Yeah, we were, and then he got a call, and..."

"And what? Where is he?"

"I don't know, he said what happened over the phone, but I couldn't catch exactly what he said, and just kind of left. He said you'd know where he is, so you wouldn't worry." In that moment, all eyes fell on me.

"Well, where is he?" Mitch asked.

I knew where he'd gone off to, it was the place we'd deemed our "secret hiding spot". I mean, it wasn't that secret, it was just hidden.

"Somewhere...I gotta go!" I grabbed my keys and ran out the door.

I slammed my car door shut and started speeding down the street.

~~~~~
Forty five minutes later, I found myself in quite the middle of nowhere. I locked my car door and started running towards the trees that were beyond my reach.
I finally got there, low-key feeling tired. I needed to get in shape, that run should not have tired me out.
Anyway, I found Avi exactly where I knew he'd be: on the red bench that was put between two of the largest trees. Neither one of us really know how the bench got there, all we know is that it has "September 26, 2016" carved into it, and that it's out secret hiding spot. "Avriel Benjamin Kaplan."
He flinched at this sudden sound, obviously disrupting him from whatever thought he was in. "How the h--"
"Kevin said that you said that I'd know where you'd be. You told him that so I wouldn't worry." Avi nodded, remembering what he had told his friend. "Why are you here? Why'd you run off?" He muttered some nonsense syllable and put his head in his hands. "You know I'm getting it from you one way or another, right?"
He looked up to me and half smiled. He laid and arm on my leg and kissed the top of my head. "Did you tell the rest of them yet?"
"We're not talking about that until you tell me what's wrong. But yes, I did, and they're ecstatic." I said softly.
"Good." He smiled once more.
"Can you please just tell me what's wrong? Kevin's freaked out about you. What happened? Is it Esther? Or--" He interrupted me.
"It's the Sequoias." Avi sighed against my shoulder. "Well, more or less, me, but there, are you happy?"
"What about the Sequoias?" My mind started racing at that too.
"Nothing, it's just that we may or may not have gotten ourselves into some hot water."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, trailing my fingers up and down his arm.
"We potentially could be getting sued." Avi muttered.
"Sued? For what?!" I brought my head from his shoulder.
"I don't know, there was a bunch of legal terms I didn't understand, but that one techie we fired because we didn't really need him anymore made up some stupid lie and allegation, and now we're getting sued."
"Suing you for how much?"
"Not a lot a lot, but enough to phase us." Avi shrugged. "Court dates got set over the phone, and I freaked out, and I didn't know where else to go but here, and, ugh, it's like the Trisha Paytas situation all over again. Except instead of snakes it's money...I guess...I don't really know." He put his head back in his hands.
"Let's go home, okay? We can talk it out, eat something for dinner, and get some sleep because lawsuits are tiring." I chuckled lightly. "C'mon."
"Okay." He looked up and me and kissed my lips. Half a second later, he was bridal style holding me and taking me to the car.
"You didn't have to do that." I laughed when we got to the car.
"I know." He winked, and I got into the driver's seat of the car.
The drive back from our secret hiding spot was a long one to say the least. By the time we got home, Avi was asleep against the window.
Before I woke him, and we went inside, I pulled out my phone to text everyone that we were back and safe.
