We never really see her...
"So, Avi," Kevin came up behind his best friend. "When are we going to meet this girl you keep talking about? Hmm?"
"You will, soon. I promise." He glanced up at Kirstie, who quickly darted her eyes away. She'd never tell him, but she didn't really approve of whoever Avi had just started dating.
Sure, she didn't even know her name, but he had just broken up with his previous girlfriend, not even a whole six months ago. He was heartbroken and lovesick, and Kirstie thought that this new girl - whoever she was - was just using that.
We never really heard from her either. But she helped us with something in the end of it all.
And it really only took one bad day to clear everything up..."Avi, I came as soon as I got your text, I--" Kirstie ran through his apartment door and immediately teared up at what she saw. There Avi was, fuming, she'd never seen him this angry. Right to the left of his head was a hole in the wall. Clean through it. Flakes of insulation and drywall were finding a new home on the carpet. "Why-why is there a hole in the wall? Tell me you didnt put that there. Avi, tell me you didn't put that there!"
Avi turned around and green eyes met brown. He still looked mad, of course he did. "Kirstin, I didn't mean to hit the wall, but--" He cut his sentence off with an angry growl, and almost another hit to the wall, until Kirstie grabbed his wrist.
"Stop. Don't hit the wall again, what happened?" Kirstie slowly lowered his hand. She could feel the anger pulsing through his fingertips. Kirstie slipped her hand down into his and walked them both over to a nearby sofa. "What happened?" All she knew was it had something to do with Rose, a girl he'd been dating for the past little while.
"She messed me up, Kirstie!" He exclaimed, ripping his hands away from her's and stood up.
"Why are you taking your anger out on the wall?" Kirstie asked as his hand hit it once more. It didn't break, but it hit the wall.
"She messed me up! She played with my head, and she said all these things, and she threw a glass at me, and--" Avi's breath picked up as he spoke.
"Woah, she was throwing things at you?" Kirstie's hand ran up and down his arm.
"And she accused me of sleeping with you, and she...she..." He shook his head.
"She what, Avi?"
"She hit me." Avi whispered.
"She hit you?!" Kirstie exclaimed, making Avi flinch suddenly.
"Yeah, but it...it wasn't that bad, it...she..."
"Avi, you're obviously flustered, it must've been bad." Kirstie was mad. A girl she'd never seen or heard from, because she was always weird around PTX members, was abusing her best friend.
"Kirstie, I'm fine!" Avi shouted and jumped away from her.
"No, you aren't!" Kirstie lowered her voice.
"It doesn't even matter. What could I have even done? She's a woman. I was raised not to hit girls. No man should ever hit a girl, either way, and--" Avi kept listing morals out under his breath.
"But no woman should ever hit a man!" Kirstie's tears fell freely now. Avi sighed and ran his hands up the back of his head.
"Why did I even tell you?" He muttered.
"Because you're hurt. Does anyone else know? Your parents?" Kirstie stayed her distance now.
"No, they don't. Nobody does!" Avi said, tears filling his own eyes.
"How long did this go on?"
"Past two months." He mumbled. Kirstie sighed. "She didn't trust me, and she did all that, and she just walked out yesterday."
"Avriel, did she ever..."
"No, she never...no." Avi walked up and hugged Kirstie. "I'm sorry for bringing you into this, I'm sorry for punching the wall, I'm sorry--"
"No, don't be sorry. You need to open up. We need to talk to the group about this. I don't want you to--"
"Kevin's already suspecting things." Avi said.
"What?"
"He saw a bruise on my back and he started questioning me, and I said I turned a corner too sharply." Kirstie sighed and hugged him, approaching him cautiously.
"They can help you, but if you don't want to tell them now, I understand." Kirstie whispered.
"Thank you." Avi whispered into her dark locks.
"She won't last long, I promise. We'll fight her."
"Kirstin?" Avi asked, pulling away from the hug.
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, Avi. I want you safe. Always." Kirstie said.
"And I want you safer." He kissed the top of her head.
