Esther sighed as she came into the dorm, setting her purse down and taking off her coat.

"Hey, how was work?" Kirstie asked, only taking her eyes off her homework for a split second.

"There was a birthday party and...it was just rough."

"Sounds like it." Kirstie chuckled, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Also, hey, can I borrow your phone for a quick second? Mine died. And I need my notes back from Mitch." Esther asked.

"Of course." Kirstie handed her roommate her phone without even thinking twice.

"Kirst?" Esther asked, her eyes glued to the texts displayed on the screen.

"Yeah?" Kirstie looked up, and then she froze when she saw what Esther was talking about.

"Why are you texting Jeremy? Why are you saying these things? You're in a relationship!" Esther shouted.

"No, Essie, you have to let me explain!" Kirstie stood up.

"What is there to explain?! How long has this been going on, Kirstie?!" Esther demanded an answer.

Kirstie's eyes fell to the floor as she rubbed the back of her neck. "What month is it?" She mumbled. Kirstie looked up to her friend, but a split second later, Esther's hand hit Kirstie's cheek. Kirstie put her hand over her left cheek. "What the heck was that for?!"

"Maybe to get some sense into you!" Esther shouted. "You're a terrible person for doing this!"

"No, you wouldn't!" Kirstie ran in front of Esther.

"Kirstin, I can't let you get away with this. Avi loves you!" Esther stated.

"I know he does! That's why you can't tell him!" Kirstie begged.

"I have to. Avi doesn't deserve to be treated like this." Esther shook her head.

Tears sprung into Kirstie's eyes. "But...but, I--"

Esther shook her head once more. "If you loved him, you wouldn’t have done this. Just...listen, I’m going to find Avi...I heard he got back today. I don’t know when I’ll be back, but don’t wait up for me."
