"Kit, you're going to be okay." Scott chuckled.
"No, I won't be!" Kirstie exclaimed as she sat up off of the sofa and began to pace.
"Is she still like this?" Avi asked, coming into the common room with a bag of potato chips.
"Yes." Scott mumbled, rolling his eyes as he stuck his hand into the Lay's bag Avi had.
"Kirst, have you eaten anything?" Avi asked, worridly.
Kirstie quickly turned around the face the music student. "Do you know how bad those are for you?" She snapped.
"Hey, hey, hey," Avi put his hands up in a fake surrender. "I didn't ask for any sassy nutrition advice. I asked if you'd eaten."
"I'm fine!" She snapped once more, running her hands through her hair as she kept pacing.
"Sudden spouts of irritability can be caused by low blood sugar. Maybe you should eat, Kirst. It can't hurt." Scott contributed to the conversation.
"I'm fine, Scott!" Kirstie grabbed her things and went off to her room. Avi was quick to follow after her.
"Hey!" He called, finally catching up to her. Right as he did, she unlocked her dorm room door and closed it in front of Avi. He knocked repeatedly until she finally gave in and opened the door. "What is going on with you?" Avi asked, walking into her room.
"Nothing is going on with me, Avi! Besides, don't you have your own midterm performance to worry about? Kirstie closed her door, Avi in her room completely now.
"So, that's what this is about." Avi sighed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What?" Kirstie asked, turning around from her vainty for a moment. After looking at Avi for a second, she turned back to taking her makeup off.
"The midterm show. That's what this is about. Giselle auditions were this afternoon, weren't they? Mitch said casting goes up at midnight, right?" Kirstie said something, but it was muffled out as she wiped a cloth over her lips to remove her lipstick. "What was that?"
"Nothing. Nothing." Kirstie mumbled, putting both hands on the table and lowering her head for a moment.
"What's wrong?"
"Sorry, just a little dizzy. It passes." Kirstie shook her head as she looked back up at Avi, who was staring at her with worried eyes.
"Kit, maybe you should eat." He warned, starting to rummage in his bag for a granola bar or something.
"No, it's fine."
"Kirstin! I want you to do well, but it isn't worth killing yourself over!" Avi yelled. "Here, eat this." He handed her a banana he had originally put in his bag this morning to eat on break, but he ended up eating something from a vending machine.
"No." Kirstie whispered. "I can't." Avi frowned. "I have to look--"
"Don't say you have to look like Mia. Babe..." Avi trailed off. "Kirstie, she--"
"She's skinny, she's five foot, two, she's gorgeous, she's the human embodiment of Giselle, Avi! And they've probably already type casted me from Giselle as lead anyway!"
"Why would they do that?"
"Because this whole art is about the look! Like, if you don't look like a fairy, you're not going to be Sugar Plum!"
"Who says what a fairy looks like?! They're nonexistent!" Avi argued right back.
"That's just the way this industry is, Avi! And it is frustrating because of course the foreign exchange student is perfect!"
"And who says you aren't? Who says that you don't look like Giselle? Who says you don't look like a fairy? Who says Mia is even better than you? Who says you aren't beautiful? Who says you aren't perfect?" Avi asked, wrapping Kirstie up in a hug.
