Kirstie walked into the commons of the South dorms with a sigh. She tossed her backpack onto the sofa and put her head in her hands. After a moment of just sitting like that, she found the strength to sit up and start on her assignments for homework.
"Tough day?" One of her best friends, Avi, sat down on an adjacent sofa with a bowl of grapes. He placed one into his mouth and chewed down on it as he watched Kirstie scribble an answer down before setting her pencil down and looking up.
"Yeah, tough day." She sighed once more. "Ooh, may I have some grapes?"
"Sure." Avi nodded and set the bowl on the table between the two of them. "So, what happened?" He asked as she took a few grapes from one of the bunches.
"It's just..." A loud exhale passed her lips. "See, they brought this new foreign exchange student in for a year long study here. Her name is Mia, and she's from Berlin."
"Ooh, a foreign exchange girl, huh?" Avi raised his eyebrows.
"Don't get any ideas. Besides, Kevin's already talking to her. He got her number right before BioMed today."
"What? Kevin already got the new girl?! We agreed that the I would get the next new girl!"
"You guys agree on who gets what girls?" Kirstie chuckled.
"It's besides the point, continue on." Avi reached for another few grapes.
Kirstie shook her head at what Avi had just said and chuckled lightly before continuing on. "So, yeah, but she's in the dance program, and she is all Ms. Granger focuses on!"
"Wow, someone sounds a little jealous." Avi snickered.
"I'm not jealous! I, in fact, hate this girl!" Kirstie crossed her arms and sat back into the couch. "I-I mean, her arches are just like Svetlana's, perfect, her extensions are beautiful, she has a perfect 180° turn out, like--"
"That sounds a lot like jealousy, Kirst. And for hating her, you seem to have a lot of praise for her dancing." Avi raised his eyebrows.
"Who hates who?" Avi and Kirstie's friend, Mitch, came into the commons.
"Kirstie hates the new girl."
"Ah, the one from Berlin?" Mitch sat down. "Y'know, I think she's going out with Kevin sometime soon."
"We know." Avi mumbled, still mad that Kevin probably has dates set up, and he didn't even get to see the girl!
"But what about Kirstie hating her?" Mitch reached for a grape from the bowl Avi set down.
"I never said I hated her." Kirstie defended herself.
"You literally just said you did!" Avi exclaimed.
"I know." Kirstie looked down at her hands. "I just find it really frustrating when a girl comes in from across the world and she is instantly everyone's favorite!"
"How do you know that about academics?" Mitch asked.
"Because she is literally in every single class of mine!" Kristie rolled her eyes.
"No way." Avi called.
Kirstie's gaze snapped over to Avi. "Bet."
"Okay, I believe you. No reason to get all sassy with me." He put his hands up in surrender.
"And she'll probably get the midterm show lead." She rolled her eyes once again.
"Who's getting midterm lead?" Another friend of their's, Scott, showed up, holding a pool cue.
