"If it wasn't like that, then what was it like?" Kirstie kept her gaze on the tiara ring Jeremy had gotten her for her birthday a couple months ago.
"Princess--"
"No, we're not playing that game. If you sleeping in another girl's bed with said other girl wasn't like that, then what was it like?"
"It was like she's a friend, and I've never given you any trouble for being friends with the rest of the guys in Pentatonix."
"Okay, that's because we work together, not sleep together. You don't sleep with someone who's just a friend." She snapped.
"You're acting like something happened! Literally nothing happened!" He tried to defend his case, but Kirstie wasn't having it. She turned on her heel and grabbed a coat.
"Where are you going?"
"Not really sure yet." She didn't bother turning around to face him. "Bye, Babies." She kissed Olaf and Pascal before slamming the door of both the apartment and her car shut. As she was getting in her car, she took the tiara ring off of her finger and threw it towards the apartment complex.
She's definitely not his Princess anymore.
As mentioned, Kirstie didn't really know where she was going. She found herself crying tears of pure frustration as she pulled into the parking lot of a Smoothie King. Her tears soon landed on her lap as she rested her head atop her folded arms that were crossed over her steering wheel. She picked her head up and groaned as her phone started to ring.
"Hello." She said into the phone, trying to sound as composed as possible.
"Kirstie? Are you alright? Where are you? We had rehearsals starting twenty minutes ago." Avi spoke with concern.
Dang it.
"Yeah, sorry, I was having problems with my car, and it didn't phase me to call you guys, sorry."
"You weren't in an accident, we're you?"
"No, no, I just ran a flat." Normally, she was a bad liar, but that was as slick as that Girl Scout that comes to your door and guilt trips you into buying a hundred boxes of Thin Mints.
"Kirst, where are you? I'll come pick you up?"
"No need, Jeremy came and fixed it." Kirstie's voice broke as she spoke his name. It was very clear to Avi over the phone that the tears had started up again.
"Kirstin Taylor, I'm worried about you now, where are you?"
"The Smoothie King on sixth, but I'm heading your guys' way now." Kirstie put the car in drive.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, Avriel Benjamin, I'm sure." She half smiled at her mocking of Avi.
"Don't mock me." He laughed. "ETA?"
"I'll see you in five, okay?"
"See you then."
~~~~~
Kirstie took yet another deep breath as she composed herself enough to walk through that door.
"Guys, I'm here!" She called into the seemingly empty recording studios. "Guys?" She went deeper into the halls, still seeing nobody.
"Oh, hey, Kirst. Sorry!" Avi's voice filled the room, making her jump. "The rest went to get food, and I stayed here to make sure you got here okay."
"Thank you." She whispered, hiding her cracked voice once again.
"Of course. Are you sure you're okay, though? I think those eyes of yours are begging to differ." Avi titled Kirstie's chin up, so that her eyes met his.
"Yeah, I'm...s-sure."
Not as slick of a lie, Kirst. She thought to herself.
"That's a lie if I ever heard one. What happened? Besides you running the flat?" They both sat in the recording studio, Avi shutting the door behind himself.
"I didn't really run a flat, Avi." Kirstie confessed. As soon as she said that, her emotions took over. "I'm sorry for lying, but I couldn't think of a better excuse, and, and I'm sorry I was so late to rehearsals, but Jeremy and I started fighting because he, he, he cheated on me, and--"
Avi cut her off as it started to get harder and harder for her to take in air. "Kirstin," Avi wrapped her in a hug as she fought back tears. "He cheated on you?"
"Yes!" Her raised voice was muffled in Avi's arms. "And I threw my ring at him and didn't even pack my stuff, and I barely even told the puppies goodbye, and I can't go back there, Avi!"
"Hey, hey, Love, listen, I can send Esther a text, she has the spare key to your place, right?"
Kirstie nodded.
"I can have her go to your apartment and throw together a suitcase, okay? She can be here in forty five minutes tops, and you can stay with me tonight, alright?" He ran his hands through her hair.
"No, Avi--"
"No. None of this "No, Avi" business, none."
"Yes! You're not bothering Esther at this time of night."
"Kirst, it's literally 7:45, she's going to be fine. Now, you stay here, I think I just heard the other's car pull up, I'll go text Esther." Avi kissed the top of her head.
"Thank you, Avi."
"Please don't thank me."
~~~~~
Esther came to the door with a suitcase thirty minutes later. "One suitcase. There's basically your life in here. All your clothes, shoes, makeup in a separate bag, I threw in your flat and curling irons, a blowdryer I somehow managed in there, oh, and that picture of Olaf and Pascal from your old shared bedroom."
"Esther, you are a Godsend! Thank you so so so so so much!" Kirstie almost choked her with her hug.
"Don't thank me, I want what's best for all of you!"
"Well, thank you still."
"Hey, you!" Esther called inside, pointing to Avi who had come to find me. "Take care of her, or I'll have your head."
"You think I'd do anything other than that?" Avi smirked.
"Still..."
"Goodnight, Es."
"Goodnight, y'all." She waved and went back home as the rest of them finished recording.
~~~~~
Kirstie found herself the next morning in a room that wasn't hers, it was Avi's. She also found herself in probably a shirt of his too, considering it was so large. She took a double-take at the framed photo of Olaf and Pascal next to the bed.
"I was too tired to go through your suitcase, and you were already asleep." Avi chuckled, seeing her confused look.
"Oh, right. I came here. Did I fall asleep in your car?"
Avi nodded.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Nothing to be sorry about." He smiled and hugged her.
That's right. That's why she's here. Avi wanted to save her.
