Just Nerves

Avi's POV:

"Okay, but what if nobody shows up?" Kirstie asked me while we were sitting on the tour bus, waiting for departure.

"There is no way that you're actually asking me that." I turned to my girlfriend.

"Well I am! It's a serious question! What if we worked all this time and we get on stage, and there is an empty house?!"

"Babe," I grabbed her hand and pulled her to my side rather than where she was sitting from across from me. "You know that if there was a empty house they would've canceled the show, right? And none of the shows are canceled, now are they?"

"I know that, but--" Kirstie paused and cleared her throat. I felt her tense up like clearing her throat hurt her.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yep, I'm good."

"That would be a raspy voice if I ever heard one, Kirst." I chuckled.

"Avi, I'm okay. Seriously." She cleared her throat once more, forcing a normal voice back on. "Just tired is all, been losing a lot of sleep over this tour."

I flashed her a skeptical look, but it's her body, she knows how to read her body, she knows when she needs to rest and when she needs to eat or drink, like she knows. "Alright, My Love." I pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I'm taking your word for it. I'm trusting you."

"No worries, Avi." Kirstie stood up from her snuggled spot by me and went back to her bunk. "On that note, I'm going to go nap. Make sure the rest of them know I'm alive."

"I got you, Babe." I blew her a kiss and watched her descend back to the bunks.

Not even five minutes later, Kevin, Scott, and Mitch were boarding the bus. "Hey, y'all, Kirstie wanted me to tell you guys that she is alive, just napping in the bunks."

Everyone nodded. "Is she okay?" Scott asked, peeling a banana and starting to eat it.

"We literally haven't even left yet, and you're already eating?" Kevin asked.

"Shut up." Scott playfully hit his shoulder. "No, but really, is Kirstie okay?"

"I don't know. She wasn't sounding too good, but she constantly told me that she was fine." I shrugged.

Everyone went along with that as well, and just accepted that all she needed was a bit of sleep.

The bus departed a half hour later, and it actually hit us that Kirstie never woke up.

"Crap, guys, did we ever wake up Kirstie? We've been driving for quite a while now." Kevin finally realized.

"I'll go check on her." I stood up and went back to her bunk. "Babe?" I whispered. "Kirstie..." I held out her name in a whisper and shook her shoulder gently. Her eyes slowly opened and a small smile reached her lips when she realized who it was. "Good morning." I said.

"Good..." There was that raspy voice again. And her coughing again. "Morning. Sorry."

"No, you're fine. Are you feeling better?" I ran my fingers through her hair as she gave me a hug.

"Not really, but I'm fine. It's just nerves." Kirstie nodded against my shoulder and pulled from the hug.

I pressed a kiss to her forehead and looked her right in the eyes. "Kirstie, I think you might be--"

"Running a fever, I know." She sighed in defeat. "I know."

"Then why won't you say that you're not fine?"

"Because please tell me how I'm supposed to be sick when we're leaving for our first tour ever! I can't be sick for this, so I'm just--"

"You can't just ignore it." I protested. "Come here." I laid her back down and pulled the covers over her body. "I'm going to get you medicine, you stay here."

"Thank you, Avi." A weak smile came to her lips.

"Of course, Babe." I crossed back to the living room part of the tour bus. Without a word, I grabbed what medicine I found in the cabinet to at least lower a fever a little bit and went back to where she was.

By the time I had gotten there, Kirstie was already asleep. "Hey, Princess, sit up for a moment." She did as asked. "Here, take this." Kirstie took the medicine and laid back down. I turned to leave when her small voice stopped me.

"Avi, can you stay?"

I turned back around. "Of course." I climbed ontop of the bunk next to her's and laid down.

She reached her hand into the gap between the beds. "Alright." I smiled and grabbed her slightly clammy hand across the bed and kissed the back of it. "Goodnight."
