A month and a little longer later.
"Avi, I'm okay, really. You don't have to stay here anymore."
"If you want me to leave, I will." Avi chuckled.
"No, I don't want you to leave, I just want what's best for you."
"And what if staying here and being around you is what's best for me?"
Gosh, that smirk.
I chuckled and sat down.
"Aren't you going to eat?" He asked.
"I'm not that hungry."
"Kirstie, you know how I feel when you don't eat." He fake pouted at me.
"I know, I know, I'm just too nervous to eat." I sighed.
Avi tilted his head at me. "Why are you nervous?"
"Why am I nervous?! It's the 8th!" I exclaimed.
"Is it really?" Avi (Who has seemed to forgotten the concept of time) gasped, checking his phone calendar. "Well, I guess it...oh wait, it's the 8th." Avi suddenly remembered what was so significant about this date.
I nodded. Today was the day I would be opening up about, well, everything, to my family. Well, Pentatonix that is.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"I'm done lying, Avi! I have to."
"I know you do."
I checked the time. We were all meeting at my...well...Avi and my apartment in fifteen minutes. "Everyone's coming in fifteen, so I'm going to go get ready."
"Okay."
I had decided just to keep my glasses on, put my hair in a sloppy bun, and change from leggings to cropped sweatpants. Nothing fancy, they're family after all.
Avi peeked into the bathroom as I finished brushing my teeth. He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head. "I'll sit by you today, and I'll catch you if you get shaky, okay?"
"Okay." I nodded.
"Just give my hand a little squeeze if you need me to pick it up, alright?"
With glassy eyes, I faced the taller man. "Thank you."
"Of course." He gave me a hug.
Soon enough everyone was here. "Hey, Guys." We all exchanged hugs.
"So, Kirstie, what's on your mind?" Scott smiled and sat back down.
My God, I wanted to bottle up all of their innocent smiles and keep them tucked away with me because I knew they weren't going to last long.
"Um, alright." I felt Avi intertwine his fingers with mine. I whispered a thank you under my breath, so only he could hear it. "So, I really hate saying this, but I've been...I've been lying to y'all for quite some time now."
I could feel the tension in the room building as everyone quietly gasped.
"And I feel really really bad about it, but I just...I knew I had to cope for myself before I opened up to everyone. Avi, here, he um, he got the story out of me beforehand, so, there's that, but he's been respectful in giving me time to wrap my head around it all. But, he knows the story, so if I get stuck, he'll finish it." I took a deep breath before continuing. "So, I take it none of you guys had noticed, but..." I shook my hand free of Avi's for a moment. "I, um, I haven't had my wedding ring on in a long time. I had a normal ring on for a bit so that you guys wouldn't get suspicious, but...Um, Jeremy and I have been divorced for a bit now, and..." I stopped and dried my eyes as everyone else did the same. "And he divorced me because...um...I..." I knew I was starting to lose myself within my mind. I tried to squeeze Avi's hand so that he could pick it up, but it was too late. I had lost it.
