Baby, this is what you came for
Lightning strikes every time she moves
And everybody's watching her
But she's looking at youAvi walked across the crowded club, looking for Kirstin. He smoothly dodged dancing bodies, balancing two drinks in his hand. Non-alcoholic drinks I should mention, the two had given up drinking alcohol after they made a bet to see who could go the longest without drinking, and...well, that's another story for another time. "Kirstin!" Avi exclaimed over the loud music. She turned to face him, colorful strobe lights and small squares from the mirrorball above them illuminated her features. "Here you go." He handed her the glass.
"Thank you, My Love." Kirstie took the glass and swallowed a small sip. Her red lips parted as if she was going to say something, but then they quickly came back together. Before Avi could notice her out-of-character behavior, she took another sip of her drink.
"I really like this song!" Scott came up behind Kristie, yelling over the song he seemed to love, his words slurring together.
"Scott, you're drunk." Kirstie laughed. "And where's Mitch?"
"Am not!" Scott taunted back. "And Mitch is over there." He pointed in the general direction of where his best friend was. "Okay, bye, guys!" He yelled once more.
"Bye, Scott." Avi laughed. Kirstie turned back around, and made eye contact with Avi again. His eyebrows scrunched up at this, and he gently pulled her to the hallway outside of the main dance floor. "Something on your mind? You've seemed tense all night."
"It's nothing, just thinking about tour and the new album and..." Her mind wandered to the whole reason they were even at this club: to celebrate the departure of their fourth world tour, tomorrow.
"Hey, this is a celebration of all of that. Don't think about it, just be." Avi kissed the tip of her nose.
"Thanks." Kirstie smiled. She glanced down at her wedding ring, and Avi followed her gaze to the band on her finger.
"You sure that you're okay?" He asked once more.
"Positive." She kissed her husband's lips and pulled him back onto the floor. "Now, we came to celebrate. So, let's celebrate." Avi smirked at the cute smile her lips had formed.
"Okay, I'll dance with you." Avi chuckled. Midway through their few dances, they ran into Scott and Mitch again, who were probably on their millionth drink of that night. They also ran into Kevin, who had found himself a spot, jamming out with the deejay. Everyone was having fun, everyone was celebrating, everyone was genuinely happy. The night flew by, and soon it was nearing two a.m., and Avi, Kirstie, and Kevin were forcing Scott and Mitch to leave and go home to get the sleep they very much needed.
"Listen, Avi..." Kirstie said as they dropped Scott and Mitch off at their place, leaving just the two of them in the car.
"What's up?" He grabbed her hand across the center console of the car. Looks of panic and concern began to mark his face.
"So, I wasn't being entirely truthful back there. I just didn't want to taint the celebration before tour, and I didn't really want to tell you, because I don't want it to interfere with all the work we're doing, and--" Kirstie rambled on, directing her gaze to the traffix lights and illuminated signs that passed her viewpoint through the window.
"What is it, Princess?" Avi cut her off.
"So..." Her voice stalled. Why was this so hard to tell him? It was happy news. It was very happy news!
"Kirstie." Avi gently smiled, looking over at his wife as he came to a stop at a red light. "What is it?" He gently laughed. Avi slowly started to drive again as the light flashed green.
"Pull over, I don't know if I want you driving for this." Kirstie said, dropping her eyes to her nervous hands.
How was he going to react?
"Alright." Avi pulled into the nearest stop, which happened to be a 7/11. "Talk to me, what's up?"
"So...you said we went to celebrate tour leaving and all, and well, I have something to tell you. It may or may not be worth celebrating as well." She blushed. The news flashed through her mind, and so did Avi's panic attacks, and the few of them that had made him physically ill, her apprehension about the whole thing, the cold stares, the questions, so many questions, the paperwork, the cramps in both of their wrists from all the signatures, it all went through her head, and it all was defined by this one reaction.
"What is it?" Avi repeated himself again, his green eyes looking like a swirling melting pot of excitement and fear of what Kirstie was about to say.
"We got cleared for adoption." And in that moment, every muscle in the young woman's body tensed up in fear of her husband's reaction. Her head spun even faster, the lights from inside the gas station seemed to be like spotlights pointed right into her eyes, every sound was like ringing in her ears, and her eyes twisted shut. She flinched back for a moment, as Avi peppered her whole face with kisses. She suddenly felt a wave of relief at his gesture. Kirstie's eyes opened slowly, meeting his sparkling emerald ones.
"This. is. great. news." Avi punctuated each word with a kiss. First her right cheek, then her left, then her nose, then her lips. "I love you so much." He muttered against her lips.
"I love you so much more."
