Since you and Donnie never went out together for everybody to see, worries like PDA and so weren't really anything you thought that much about. There were no crowds nor public-whatever in the sewers, you needed to be aware of other than the rest of the brothers, when you finally did show some affection for one another. But on a festival on the other hand...

Yeah, you were pretty doomed.

Along with the rest of the family, you had decided to attend a local festival as the last thing to do in Japan, before you again would go back to the United States tomorrow morning. However, the bare idea to visit a festival had two aspects:

The good aspect were you and Donnie for once could go out together side by side without worrying about him being a mutant. Japanese festivals often centered around godly things and weird creatures, so Donnie going around in the open beside you were not that odd a sight, considering as everybody simply thought of it as a costume dedicated to the gods.

The bad aspect, however, were the damn crowds and smoochy couples everywhere. You couldn't even go one feet, without either bumping into someone or trip over a couple trying to eat each other's faces off. Keeping that topic going; you had a hard time staying together, as you easily could get lost in the horde of people in costumes and kimonos.

Like right now.

Having turned your focus towards a booth for a second, you somehow had managed to get separated from Donnie and now were on your own in the endless sea of Asians. Leaving the booth, you sought into the middle of the crowd, in a search for your lost boyfriend.

"Excuse me," you kept repeating to the Japanese-speaking gathering, as you timidly pushed your way through them. "I'm sorry, have you seen a green Turtle near here?"

No one really seemed to notice you. Either because they didn't understand you, or simply because they didn't really care. Most likely it was a fair mix of both. Not that that knowledge helped you any further to find Donnie, though.

Going, and tripping like a pro in your getas, around the crowd, you started to become a little desperate. What would happen, if you couldn't find each other? Would Donnie leave you? Would the others travel home without you? Would you be left in a country where you couldn't even ask directions to the toilet on your own?

"(Y/N)!"

A jolt of relief was send through you, when you heard the familiar voice of your boyfriend call out your name. He was here somewhere, looking for you. The question solely relied on where that somewhere was.

"Donnie!" you called out. "Donnie, I'm here! I'm over here!"

As if the horde just wanted to make it worse, the circle of people around you closed in, like walls stopping a prisoner from escaping. You view became blurred at the constant moving of others. No matter where you looked, there was no sight of Donnie or his purple mask.

"(Y/N)!" You heard again this time much closer.

A hand suddenly shot out of the horde and grabbed your arm in a firm hold. You tensed and turned around, but was filled with relief when the owner of the hand came toto view.

"Donnie!" you exclaimed.

"(Y/n)," Donnie breathed heavy and pushed himself in between the mass, before bringing you into a tight hug, shielding you from the world's harm. "(Y/n), are you hurt? I'm so sorry, I left you."

"Where were you?" you questioned, rather traumatized, before returning the hug, not waiting for him to give you an answer. "You can't just leave me! You can't!"

"I'm really sorry," he repeated, holding you even closer, "I won't let go of you again. Never."

"Promise?"

"Promise." From holding you in a embrace, Donnie instead took hold of your hand firmly. "Let's go, okay? Somewhere less crowded."

He didn't need to suggest that twice!

Gripping onto his hand tightly, you let yourself being led through the maze and past several booths with games and food in large amounts. Although, you occasionally were on the edge to slip out of Donnie's hand, due to bumping into people, he simply clutched your hand tighter and pulled you closer to him.

By normal standarts you and your genius of a boyfriend never showed PDA, simply because you both were too sweet and shy. However, now when you held hands through the masses, you seemed to be the only one with red cheeks. Donnie seemed like he couldn't careless about other people's stares, as long as he just knew you were right behind him.

At last, when you arrived near a lake, the numbers of people dispersed, and you and Donnie found yourself again able to breath properly. But even with more space allowed, it was hard to get much privacy with the lots keep passing by. So as the first solution, when Donnie caught the sight of a booth selling small boats, he left you shortly, before he returned carrying a boat and a pair of paddles.

With a united effort, you hoisted the boat into the lake and paddled your way into the center of the lake, far away enough for you to have privacy, yet still able to see the lights and be a part of the festival.

"That should do," Donnie stated tiredly and raised the paddles from the water, bringing them into the safety of your boat. "So much for activities with so many visitors at once."

You nodded. "Seems like we won't be attending the party, after all."

"Apparently..." Letting out a minor sigh, Donnie lifted the bandage of his wrist, just enough to see the watch under it. From sighing, a smile suddenly showed up on his green features, which he turned to you. "...or maybe not."

Your expression barely had changed to one of confusion, before the sound of an explosion from above boomed above, coloring the very lake you floated on You gasped startled, quickly turning you focus to the sky, only to be left in awe.

Above you in the sky, an illumination of wonders created the perfect scene to a romance movie. Waves after waves of firework flew into the sky and exploded in very controlled figures, telling each their stories. From around the festival other kinds of fireworks were visible, but neither of them seemed to match that well like the ones you and Donnie sat under.

"Midnight," you whispered, starring at the dreamy show you were shown.

Like magnets you and Donnie's hands found their way automatically together under the color-sea. Donnie squeezed your hand comfortingly, and for a short moment you imagined you could hear him whisper back:

"We're going home."
