A gray sky over New York City, was threatening with gloomy, dark clouds to break into a shower of rain. The parks many threes slowly began to stand naked, as the leaves turned into reddish and orange colors. Even the temperature had dropped drastically. Obviously, the season had changed into Autumn many days ago, yet first today the weather finally seemed to have acknowledged that fact.

But, somehow, something told you that the reason for the weather change had nothing to do with the season, but rather reflected the blue feeling covering your heart. Autumn was suppose to be a beautiful season with all its many colored leaves, but for you, you saw nothing but gray colors.

After your return back from Japan, everything should've gone back to normal and you were suppose to prepare for the new school-year starting a week later. But barely you had packed out your luggage, before that plan was ruined.  At the dinner-table in the kitchen, you had found a formel letter addressed with your name on it. A letter with great influence.

A letter with an official invitation for a scholarship.

Months ago you had sent a application to one of the most well-known schools in the country, hoping for a scholarship, so you could study your last year of high-school and two years of college there and get a diploma to that field of work you so badly wanted to work with. Never in your wildest dreams had you thought, however, that you ever actually would be accepted for real.

But here you were, in the alley Leo so long ago had saved you in, waiting for that bus, which would take you away from New York City for three years. You were suppose to feel happy. You had been accepted on the school you wanted and now had a clear path in front of you to the future.

But you couldn't be happy.

The school lied hours away. Hours away from your home, hours away from your friends and the life you had build. And most of all, hours away from Leo. With so great distance between you, you'd have to be in a long-distance relationship, but you knew very well such relationships only lasted in movies. Having Leo and you waiting for so long was fair to neither of you.

"....It's almost time, (Y/n)," Leo quietly said, shaking you out of your daze.

You turned your gaze away from the street you had been staring at and turned it to his. Leo had been just as shocked, when your invitation had come, yet instead of being angry, he had been genuinely happy for you and supported your decision to go fully..

"Leo..."

The familiar sound of a bus approaching was heard, signaling to you that your time together was short. Leo, who had been holding your suitcases, handed them over to you with a wry smile. apparently getting the same conclusion. You took them, as your heart began to ache strongly

Noticing this by your expression, he stepped closer and brought you into his arms, a place you once had thought you belonged in. "I love you (Y/n). No matter who you meet or how long there'll go, it won't change, so focus on these three years and your future."

Was your boyfriend shaking or did you imagine it? He's voice was as firm and supportive as it always was, but n. You defienetly could feel Leo's unsteady heartbeat in his chest. He didn't let it show, but he was just as saddened as you.

God, it hurt to say goodbye

You stifled a sob, which was about to come out and let out a barely audible sigh and pressed yourself closer to him, as closing your eyes tightly. "I love you too."

If you could, you'd had frozen time just there. Just let forever last, so you wouldn't have to leave. Three years was long. Three years were that one forever you couldn't share with the person you wanted to the most.

You stood like that for what felt only as seconds. But when your bus unmistakable arrived outside the alley, you knew it was time to go. It was time to part ways, and this time there was no way out of it.

"I-I need to go..." you said.

"Be safe (Y/n)." Leo let you free, and you took a step away from him.

Your eyes met his a last time, before you turned away and began to make your way out to the street and out to your bus. You glanced back briefly to the alley, in a faint hope Leo would stop you, but left behind you was no one. Leo was gone, and thereby gave you no reason to stay there.

Inside the bus, you packed your things away and found a seat near the window. You sat down and the doors closed. There was no way back. A new life would begin for you at a new place and with new people.

Adulthood here you come.
