With your heart pounding somewhere up in your throat, you dragged your baggage from the taxi and off to the nearest alley, which had a fire-escape. Your hands slightly shaking, you began to climb up the ladder to the roof.
A day ago you had been nervous to end your three years lasting adventure. To say goodbye to your new friends and new life you had created had felt weird. Specially, because the thought of no longer seeing one of your friends like Yoru, who had taken care of you ever since you had started, just didn't feel real.
However, even if you couldn't believe it, you had to. Early morning, you both trouped up at the parking-lot and waited side-by-side for your taxi to arrive. Those few moments had been heart-breaking. Although you had parted with smiles on your face and exchanged contact-information, then it wasn't hard to feel the regret in Yoru, when he finally had let you out of his arms.
You had waved goodbye through the window of the taxi as you drew off, but else only had fixed your gaze forwards. After three years, exactly 1095 days, it had finally become the day for you to go home. And though, you loved your new life, you couldn't wait to return back to your old one. You didn't want any regrets, no matter how many friends you had made, because only one 'friend' really mattered: MIkey.
You had been nervous to say goodbye, but now you were nervous to say hello.
Mikey had promised you, the day you left, that he'd wait for you till the day you'd return. He had given you that promise with the most genuine feeling in them, while he had choked with threatening tears.
But that was three years ago.
How did he feel now? Would he actually come as promised? Could he remember you? It had been so long ago the promise had been made that you couldn't really feel confident about what you'd find up at the roof. Maybe he had changed and he no long felt anything for you?
You had changed through the last couple years from a innocent, enthusiastic person to instead be a serious and passionated adult. But of course, even though that had changed about you, the real you and your love for him never had changed. But who knew? Maybe Mikey, if he had changed, had differed from you.
Gathering your strength, you pushed your luggage up over the edge, before climbing the last few steps up yourself. The roof was empty and no signs seemed to hint that anyone had been there beside you. Maybe you were to early?
Glancing around the roof, you let your eyes at last stop at the view over New York City. You had been so busy, thinking about Mikey ever since you exited the taxi, you hadn't pitied one single glance at the city you had grown up in. You couldn't see the small details from your position, yet just by one inhaling, you knew nothing had changed. Same noisy streets, same beautiful view, same smell of cars and fast food shops. Nothing had changed.
But where was Mikey?
"(Y/n)...?" a familiar voice spoke behind you, just as that thought occurred. "(Y/n), you're back!"
Barely having had time to spin around, you were startled with a yelp, when a large, green body collided with you in a tight embrace, as you both crashed down onto the cold concrete. For a moment you were completely disorientated what was going on and had for a second feared that the weather had changed, as the first couple of waterdrops landed on you. Or that was until your gaze finally focused on who were lying above you and realized you attacker was sobbing.
It was no other than Mikey.
"You're back, you're actually-..."
"Mikey!"
In under a second, before you brain even had comprehended it, you had by reflex shouted out the name of the person in your life you loved the most, leaving him no room to continue his sentence, as you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him down in bone-crushing hug.
"You came," you sobbed, beginning to tear up on your own, out of a mix of happiness and relief. "You remembered me. .."
"Of course, I came!" Kissing your nose and lips, he rested his forehead at yours. "i promised, didn't I? I missed you so, so, so much."
"I missed you too," you replied, looking into his shining eyes, which were reflecting yours.
This was the same cheerful and lovable person you had longed for in three years, who now were lying onto you. You had been apart for so long, yet it meant nothing at all now that you were together again. The amount of time you had been apart would never matter, only the time you'd spend together for the rest of your lives counted.
"Welcome home."
