________________________________________________________________________________"Trick or treat!" you and Yoru exclaimed, when the door went open and a elder lady showed up with a bowl of colored candies.
Once again the Autumn's most popular holiday had arrived: Halloween.
What better traditions follows with Halloween than decorations of the dead, pumpkins, ghost and other scary creatures, as well as lots of candy and wonderfully detailed costumes?
You could only answer that with two words: Absolutely nothing.
The time in your new life had passed by quicker than what you first had expected. It felt like it was yesterday you stumbled upon, your now good friend, Yoru, who had returned your escaped scholarship's invitation. It felt like yesterday, yet one and a half years already had gone by.
A Halloween party was held upon your school's campus this evening, but as a tradition, Yoru had taught you, it was normal for the students to first go trick or treat inside the town before the party started.
And so you did.
Just as blunt and straightforward as Mikey, Yoru had many months, far before the actual date was published, asked you, if you wanted to go to the party with him, as well as go do trick and treat together. It wasn't that surprising that he had asked, considering as you spend most of the days together hanging out, so obviously you gladly accepted.
Besides your strong bonds with (Bff/n) and Mikey, this newly created 'friendship', or whatever you should call it, was special. Never had you had such an enjoyable time with anybody, with the exception of Mikey, as you had with Yoru everyday.
At the day of Halloween, you had dressed into matching (f/c) and orange (f/co), and made a great kick-off, by firstly visiting some of the biggest houses before any of the other students. Your hunt for candy had barely begun, yet your bags already were half-full with sugar products in various shapes and tastes.
"Ooh," the elder lady said with a warm smile, as she laid down a handful of sweets into your bags. "A couple on trick and treat, how lovely."
Strangely that seemed to be the assumption for everybody you met today.
"Thank you, Mrs," you thanked, avoiding to comment on her wrong thinking.
"Yeah, thank you!" Yoru added and continued with a depressed smile. "But, Mrs, (Y/n) isn't my girlfriend. She's too good for me."
Blinking, you turned to him in surprise. Yoru had denied the rest of the people you had met when they assumed you were together. But his way of denying it now? That was something new, you hadn't heard before.
"Aw, dear. That is too bad, you look wonderful together," she told, holding a hand over her heart. "Oh well, now now, no sad feelings on such a day of celebration." Making a light gesture, she showed you away from the door. "Now go have some fun, while you're still young."
A little bewildered you both wished her a nice evening, before continuing your stroll towards the next house, which were only a little further away. Unintentionally, your head started to wander back to the words that had been exchanged. The word girlfriend and your name in a sentence without Mikey seemed wrong, but then again you hadn't ever considered it, because Yoru, on the contrary, seemed a little too good for you.
"Why did say that earlier?" you wondered out loud, without thinking.
"Say what?" he questioned, tilting his head, which was an awfully adorable action when he was dressed in an (f/co).
"That I was too good for you."
"Well." Carefree, he shrugged. "It's true. I mean, I've known you for only a little over a year, but as I see it, you're the best thing I have in my life."
Instantly, as a reply, your cheeks grew hot, while your stomach made a flip. If anybody else had used the same phrase, you knew it'd have been flattery, but now when he said it, you couldn't imagine it to be anything but genuine.
"U-Uh...T-Thanks..." you uttered.
He winked to you encouraging. "Of course. Now, c'mon! We gotta get to the next house, before the others."
Relaxed, he easily took a hold in your hand and pulled you along into a run towards your next stop. For the rest of the night, even at the party, the topic wasn't brought up again, but you were certain Yoru knew that it weighted on your mind.
A Halloween yet to forget.
