Even though it was Autumn, the weather showed no signs of it. The various parks' many trees slowly turned naked, as the leaves turned into beautiful reddish, brown and yellow colors. The sky was bright blue and a warm sun shone over New York City. The season had changed, yet it still felt like a late summer afternoon.

It was a nice weather. A weather you were supposed to enjoy, but was unable to as your heart wasn't in it.  You couldn't enjoy it. Not while your heart threatened to break and your eyes threatened to fill with same tears, as the ones Mikey already were shedding. There was nothing happy about this situation right now.

When you arrived back home to the city, you had hoped for time to settle down into your everyday routines once again. Unfortunately,  that plan didn't go far. While you had been packing out your things, Mikey had shown up with a letter addressed to you, he apparently had found on the dinner-table in the kitchen. The letters and envelope had been formel written, and you immediately knew it was something important.

And you turned out to be right.

Inside the letter an official invitation for a scholarship along with some registration documents lied. The further you read in the letter, this more your eyes had grown in size. The letter informed you that one of your teachers had recommended you as a student worth of a scholarship, and therefore you was given the opportunity to enroll at one of the most wanted schools in the country.

You had been in complete disbelief. You had cried, you had laughed. With this scholarship, you could study your last year of high-school and two years of college there and get a diploma to that field of work you wanted in the future, while proudly could say you'd had gone on a prestige school.

But there was a problem.

The school lied hours away from New York City. Hours away from the Lair and hours away from your friends and and your boyfriend in green. Accepting the scholarship, would mean you had to abandon everything you now loved and cared about for at least three years forward. And more over, you and Mikey were an intimate couple. A relationship with so far a distance between you? The only outcome would be hurt for the both of you.

No longer able to hold back your own tears, a sob escaped your lips. "S-Stop crying, silly. I-I'll just start too.*

Mikey had ever since you had told him about the invitation supported you, though, he didn't hide the fact that he was saddened about the thought of letting you go. Now your last few minutes together had come, and he was drowning himself with tears.

"i-I'm sorry, but y-you can't go, (Y-Y/n)," he cried, although he did his best not to. "Th-Three years are too long."

He embraced you tightly, which you returned quickly, burrowing your head into his chest. Your body was starting to shake. You had told yourself you'd say goodbye with a smile on your features, but now that was impossible. You couldn't be happy. Not while you left Mikey.

"W-We'll see each other soon," you got out, wiping your eyes. "They'll go fast, Mikey. I swear. I-I'll come back as soon I can."

This didn't stop the stream of tears showing up in his eyes, but apparently you had convinced him that you really would go. "I-I'll miss you, c-chica. Ple-Please, don't forget me..."

He tightened his arms around you and you accepted, giving his cheek a kiss. "Never."

Finally, his crying subsided a little, replacing itself with a saddened smile. Same did yours, but unlike Mikey you still found yourself unable to fake a smile to him. Your last limited time together. Your last moments as a couple for a long, long time. Maybe even forever.

"You're... You're most beautiful when you smile, (Y/n)," he told, wiping your eyes lightly with a trembling hand. "S-Share it with everyone you meet, o-okay?"

You nodded quietly and moved away from the hug. You looked out from the alley you were in and towards the street. The taxi you had ordered had shown up just on time. It was time to go. It was time to say goodbye.

Not wanting your goodbye to end only with tears, you desperately used all your will-power to force a small smile to your lips. "I'll miss you."

'Y-You too," he replied.

A last time you shared a tight hug, before you parted a final time and you headed out of the alley, casting a glance back towards Mikey who watched you. When you reached the taxi, you lifted your hand to wave, before you sat and closed the door.

"Goodbye," you whispered silently to Mikey in your mind, as you taxi departured.
