________________________________________________________________________________Slowly leaves on the trees turned to their last stage of brown coloring, before they swayed down to the ground in a graceful dance. Winter had at last reached the doorstep of America and had begun to show its signs, as the temperature took a downfall. No longer could any newyorker be left in t-shirts and shorts, but instead had to change into their thick winter coats and warm beanies. And, of course, same happened for you.
It had been just around two weeks, since you had returned, yet you already had felt right at home the moment you stepped back into the Lair, where the other girls obviously were still were in full swing at unpacking their own belongings. It hadn't taken very long for either of your to get back into the old routines, as nothing major seemed to had changed in the Hamato family's daily life.
And yet...
Something definitely had alternated from how you remembered it. You couldn't really tell the difference, but you knew it was there. Like a life-changing secret was hanging in the air, just waiting to be told. You guts told you it wasn't a bad secret, yet you were quite curious what it was, seeing as Mikey seemed to know. Mikey had acted funny the last couple of days. Always being nervous, when you exchanged kisses. Always mumbling something you weren't able undersand.
But today you found out and oh boy how you hadn't imagined today would end like it had.
Sometime at noon, you had come back home after had been out grocery shopping ingredients for dinner, which Mikey very specifically had delegated for you to buy. In a thick jacket and a scarf around your neck, you, with heavy bags, had been surprised to find the Lair completely empty. Or almost empty, with the exception of Donnie, who apparently was waiting for you at the door with a sign in his hands.
"Donnie?" you quizzed, as entering the Lair. "What is it? Where's everybody?"
"Welcome home, (Y/n)," the smartest of the Turtles greeted, before taking your bags and showing you the sign."We've been waiting for you."
"Huh?" Giving him a weird look, you read the message, which had been written on the sign, out lod. "'Go to the kitchen, where Leo will be waiting for you'." Confused you wrinkled your nose. "What? Why?"
"Who knows?" Donnie, replied with a soft smile, before leaving with your purchases.
You looked after him in bewilderment for awhile, unsure what was going on. Was this a prank? Some odd joke? If Leo had decided to join in, then it really must be something serious. Maybe Leo could give you some answers, since Donnie apparently had no intention to. Giving it a few thoughts, you decided to obey the sign and made a beeline to the kitchen. Inside the kitchen, just as said, the leader in blue was waiting with another sign in his hands. Noticing your arrival, he smiled and straightened his stance.
"Hey, (Y/n), perfect timing," Leo said.
"Perfect timing for what exactly?" you asked, pointing to the sign. "I was hoping you could give me some answers about what these signs are for."
Sympathetically he shook his head and took a plate of cookies behind him and handed you. "Sadly, I can't give you that. But I can give you a cookie." Seeing you eyeing the cookie hesitantly, he chuckled. "Relax, Mikey baked them. They're safe."
Giving the cookie another look, you took a small bite of it and breathed out relived. The familiar taste of Mikey's magic in kitchen flovered your tongue, rather than the....not as tasteful taste of Leo's cooking. "They're good."
"Mikey has always been good with food, one way or the other," Leo replied and handed you the sign, as he told you the exact message, which was pasted onto the sign. "Go upstairs into Mikey's room. Raph will be there waiting for you."
Again, the turtle in front of you, left before you could ask anything further. Still confused you laid the sign on the table, but this time didn't hesitate to follow orders. The very limited clues you had received al pointed to the conclusion that this was Mikey's doings. Instead of questioning it, it'd surely be easier to just go with the flow.
Having gone upstairs, you entered your and Mikey's room. As expected Raph was in there with a sign, while he leaned up against the wall. Only raising his head a little, he pushed off the wall, when hearing you enter.
"Finally," he sighed. "Took you long enough."
"Excuse you," you responded sulkily. "You're not the one going on sign hunt."
"God, no," Raph commented. "And that's better the same."
Rolling your eyes, you gazed down to his sign. "What now?"
"Take this and go downstairs." Handing you a tissue, Raph didn't give you any choice but to leave, as he shoved you out.
"What-...! Hey!"
The door was closed behind you, letting you have no room to protest. In almost pitch darkness, you let out a sigh and shook your head. Of course, Raph would be the least likely to give you any answers. Now you were completely left alone in the darkness.
Wait, what?
As much as it was a literal figure of speaking, you actually were left out in the dark. Puzzled, you turned away from the door and was bewildered to see the light that before had illuminated the Lair, now was turned off. The only light, preventing the Lair from being pitch black, was a row of candles that fromed a path towards the stairs. More curious than scared, you followed the path of candles the whole way down to the center of the Lair, only to gasp in awe.
The floor was bathed in a ocean of small candles and in the middle of it, none other than Mikey stood, waiting for you, this time with no sign at sight. Slowly you approached him, for some reason unable to take your eyes off him.
"Mikey..." you uttered quietly. "Wh-...What's happening?"
Sheepishly he scratched his cheek. "W-Well...To be honest.." Taking a calming breath, MIkey smiled lightly. "It's me wanting to share the rest of forever together with you."
Your eyes grew huge in under a second. "M-Mikey...'". You words were caught in your throat, as Mikey knelt down at your feet, looking up at you with deep eyes, you never had seen before.
"(Y/n), we've been apart from each other for three years and been together in about the same amount. We've just turned our twenties, but I want to turn hundred with you too." He took your hand, letting you feel the slight tremble in his hands. "I'm not the ideal partner, far from, but you are (Y/n). You're the most precious thing in my life. You've been so ever since we met. I can't imagine a future, where you aren't in it."
Without meaning to, your eyes began to burn at the verge of tears, when Mikey pulled out a box from his belt and opened it for you. Inside it was a shining ring, more beautiful than you'd ever had seen.
And it was meant for you.
"(Y/n) (M/n) (L/n), I love you and will so forever. I promise to make you happy and cherish every single moment we're together." His eyes met yours. "Will you make me the happiest Turtle in the world and marry me?"
You tried desperately to stifle your sob, but failed miserable. Tears went down your cheeks and streamed down to the floor in puddles. Your heart raced and before you knew o it, you were on your knees and arms wrapped around Mikey's neck.
"Yes..." you whispered, before repeating louder between your sobs. "Yes! Of course!I lo-...!"
Before you could give the same affectionate words, your lips were sealed in a sweet kiss fit for a couple who soon enough would become husband and wife.
