"I feel like we've been walking for days," Mia whines as her back slowly slouches the more we walk. "The park is like two minutes away, don't worry," I reassured my best friend as we get closer to the town park.
The park is one of my favorite places to go and always has been ever since about three years ago when Jayla still lived with us. She was 18 and Zayn was around 16 and they had both started partying late at night and would come back early in the morning.
My dad is a calm dad when things in the family are going right but loses it when he sees something wrong between members and so to reserve the issues, he would hold meetings that would include Jayla, Zayn, mom and himself. Whenever the yelling started, on my sneakers went and I headed to the park. I eventually began to drag Drew and Mia with me though it benefitted them because Drew would play soccer or something while Mia and I would hang out in the tree.
Once we got to the park, Drew ran off in the distance with his soccer ball as Mia went to our tree, I smelled the fresh air. The town park is beautiful. Pretty tall trees and a fish pond to the side, a playground for kids, parents getting tired of pushing their children in the swings while trying to get their older daughter to help watch her son as he tried to ride a bike with no training wheels, and last but not least, the tree.
"You coming or what?" Mia questioned from the tree and I made my way towards it. Our tree was beautiful. It had a dark brown trunk and green almost brown leaves that fell slowly as winter struck. The tree is pretty sacred in our small town and it is placed right in the middle of the park, so I guess the government just decided to build a park around it.
It's Mia and I's favorite place to hang out and talk and even when we just have nothing to do or the other has insomnia, we would come here late at night and just look at the stars. No care in the world.
I climbed up the little ladder that my best friend and I managed to build. I'm sure you can see how seriously we take this tree. I sat beside her on the huge branch, "Sure is warm today." Thank God it is. Our town has the worst weather in the entire planet that it basically redefines the word itself. It would be cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon, vice versa.
Mia didn't say anything as she stared off and I looked in her direction, smirking a bit. "Are you staring at Drew?" I question and her head instantly snaps towards me.
"Hell no, I'm staring at the guy playing with Drew. Who is he?" She asked and I shrug a response, pulling out my phone at the ting indicating I have a new message.
I creased my eyebrows as the message is from an unknown number. "Who is it?" Mia asked, I'm guessing she was sensing my confusion.
"No idea," I entered my password before opening the message:
Unknown caller ID:
>> I have what you don't.Mia grabbed my phone and her eyebrows creased as she read the message, "Who is this, Kayla?"
"I don't know."
My phone tinged again and I scouched closer to Mia who was still holding my phone as we both read the message together.
Unknown caller ID:
>> I will get my revenge on you. BOTH of you.
My heart starts racing a bit as I look around the atmosphere to see if maybe someone was watching me or stalking me or anything. But there was no one else here other than Mia, Drew, the guy who was playing soccer with Drew and some lady who was jogging. It is only four o'clock in the afternoon, I wouldn't even expect anyone to be here.
"I think we should go," Mia said and I quickly nodded as we both climbed down the ladder and over to Drew.
"Drew, we gotta go!" I yelled as Drew kicked the ball into the net before turning to me. "Why?" He let out a tired breath.
"My dad said I need to be home by five," I lied and he nodded before Mia came over to us. "What'd you do?"
"Got his number."

"Mikayla, Mia's here!" I could hear Jordan yell from downstairs as I tied my hair in it's usual messy bun."Coming!" I tied on my sneakers as Mia walked through the door. "Hey hey hey," she smiled in greeting and I returned the gesture. "Hey," I grabbed my bag and the two of us walked out into the summer weather of Samoi, our town, and into Drew's car.
"Hey, Drew."
"Hey."
"So, did you find out anything about the number?" Mia asks as she turns from the passenger seat to face me.
I sighed, "No."
"What number?" Drew looks at me through the rear view mirror. "Some guy is stalking Kayla," Mia said casually which had me shook a little.
"Does Jordan know?" Drew questioned and I shook my head. "I love my brother but if I start telling him ALL of my problems and issues, I'm gonna get married when I'm 85," I state as they both nod before we get out the car and into Samoi highschool.
The three us walked into the school known as the 'inside out Oreo' though the people that said that would be called racist in return. The atmosphere grew quiet as I noticed people started staring at Mia and would whisper in a way that they wanted her to hear.
Mia is probably one of the most bipolar people I have ever met, sometimes I even think she's more black than me. Yeah she walks around with a casual smile and was nice and super pretty, but once you get on her bad side, she would probably hit you so bad that your ancestors would feel it.
"I'm Elie White reporting from the East, main entrance hallway here at Samoi highschool. It seems here that the most knowable, Mia Philip, has just entered the school and I'm sure the whole school has un answered questions," Elie turned her mic to Mia, "Mia, care to explain what happened at Fridays party?"
Mia just glared at Elie as her hands clenched and unclenched, her cheeks becoming red in anger and her eyes stone cold.
Pray Elie.

"Alright class, there will be a math test on Wednesday so be sure to study hard," Mrs. Belle says as the class packs up their stuff. "Ms. King, may I have a word?" I nod before grabbing my bag and walking toward her desk.
"Yes, Mrs. Belle?"
"I see that you have not been doing very good in math. I'm sure you know that math is not an optional subject and you have to have a B grade rate in the subject and yours is below average. This test, pass it, or summer school for you. Got it?"
I nod a yes, swallowing the lump in my throat.
Great.
