I couldn't move. Couldn't talk. Couldn't do anything but blink and absorb everything.
Drew loves Mia.
It makes no sense. They fight and bicker like sister and brother yet like an elderly couple at the same time.
I stare down at Drew's brown eyes which were now becoming clear as day as he looked relieved from finally admitting something that he looked like he's been keeping to himself for awhile.
"Drew, how long have y-" I groan at the sudden shock going throughout my uterus and Drew quickly sits up, grabbing his phone and showing me the screen of his phone showing the period tracker app saying that it was Day One.
I simply nod and he goes downstairs, later returning with a heating pad which I take and place on my stomach and we lay there beside each other, looking up at the ceiling. "How long have you known?"
Drew simply shrugs, realizing what I was implying, "I don't know. Maybe a few months, probably a year even. I guess I just didn't really fully digest the fact that I did until Reece showed up, Austin popping into the picture a few weeks later and it made me realize it all."
He sighs. "I was so in denial this whole time." He turns to me. "But Mikayla, trust me. I know this feeling is stronger than any other emotion I've felt for anyone."
I pull Drew into a hug and smile at the big softy in my embrace, "I'm happy you figured that out. Now," we release and sit up, "what happened between the two of you in Freshman year?"
Drew sighs, "It's not my place to tell you." He stood from the bed looking sober already and I follow him down the stairs and into the kitchen, taking my phone with me. He grabs some bags of chips from the fridge and I grab a tub of ice cream before I follow him down to the movie room and watch in shock as he keys in the code.
"How do you-"
"Kayla, I've known this family for nine years. Don't tell me you didn't think I would eventually pick up that the password is this address," he gives me a bored look and I roll my eyes before we both sit down on one of the couches.
I sat and wait, thinking he would put on a movie but no movie appears on the screen. I turn to him, "We're not watching anything?"
Drew shook his head with a smile. "Nope. You're gonna help me plan on how to get Mia to love me."
I chuckle at Drew's request. Not even minding the fact that my uterus was trying to keep me from laughing any longer. "Drew, I don't think that'll be as easy as you think."
He simply shrugs, "Well all we can do is hope for the best. Now what do you think she'd like. Like, what would impress her?"
I lean back against the couch, shoving ice cream in my mouth as I thought. "Well she does like the woods and nature and stuff-"
He stands to his feet with bright eyes, "She does." He hugs me and I smile at his estaticness, "Thanks Kayla." Drew runs out the room and I get up from my seat and slowly find my way back to my room in deep thought.
Drew loves Mia.
Like, of course we all love each other but I can tell from how his brown eyes became a hazel color that he's talking about a different kind of love.
My phone rings in the pocket of my shorts and I answer the FaceTime request, plopping on my bed as I watch as Drew is writing something at my desk. "Hey Phoenix."
"Hey. Anything?"
"Um," I pause and look over at Drew who is still writing, just completely in his own world. "He just seems to be confused with some things in his life I guess but I got it all covered."
Phoenix sighs. "I know you do. I trust you." A warm feeling goes all throughout my body at his words. "Anyway, I am super tired so I'll talk to you in the morning."
"Goodnight Phoenix."
"Goodnight Love."
I hang up and am now doing backflips and summersaults in my head because being with my current physical state and white bed sheets....yeah.
Drew looks over at me with a smile. "Love, huh?"
The first pillow I get my hands on, a heart face emoji pillow, is flung at his face. "Shut up."
He chuckled before standing and walking over to me with my notebook that was lying on my desk but luckily it wasn't my important one. "So, this is my idea." He looks over at me. "You tell me what to do."
My eyes buldge out of my head in laughter, "Drew, I can't help you with everything you do in your life. You gotta plan this yourself." I turn my back to him as I text Phoenix the rest of the night, evenually drifting off to sleep when I realize it was two in the morning.
Several hours later I woke up and see that my bedroom light was off but the lamp at my desk was on. My phone read 4:28 in the morning and I groan as I analyze Drew, smiling at whatever he was writing.
"So I'm gonna set up a dinner for the two of us in those woods behind the school but I'm gonna drive in from the other side." He turns to me with a smile. "I was thinking that I could just get some fake candles for the trail so that it won't be dark and stuff."
"When will it be?" I yawn, adjusting my floppy ponytail. "Tonight. I was thinking about eight-ish. Maybe I could set up like a table for two for the two of us obviously and we could have cheese noodles because I know how much she likes them." Is his response and I nod before pointing to the lamp.
He picks up the memo and turns it off before lying in the bed beside me. "I'm happy for you." I smile.
"Thanks idiot."
*****
I groan as I walk over to my closet once I'm out of the shower and throw on a black hoodie and leggings, sliding on my black Nike slides and grabbing my phone and wallet before walking out and into Drew's car."I don't even wanna do this. You should be able to do this on your own."
"Well, you're my best friend. You signed up for this." I roll my eyes at Drew's statement before calling Mia.
After a few rings, she picks up. "Hey," she huffs, seemingly out of breath.
"Hey. Um, are you busy with something?"
She immediately shakes her head, sitting straight on what seems to be a bed though I know it isn't hers.
Thank God her clothes are still on.
"Oh, so anyway, Drew and I were wondering if you would want to come with us to this new restaurant in town." I lie.
"I thought you and Drew weren't on speaking terms?" Her question causes Drew to stiffen.
"No, we're good now. But would you like to come?"
"Yeah, yeah, sure. What time?"
"Just be ready by 7:30 then we'll pick you up from your house. Wear fancy attire."
Mia nods before cutting the call and Drew and I walk into the supermarket. He said he needed my help but he seemed to have everything covered as he purchased the fake candles, tabble and chairs as well as the covers, food and flowers.
Afterwards, he dropped me at home as he said he needed to go set things up and I walk up to my room. Not too long afterwards, the doorbell rings and I head downstairs to find Phoenix in a long sleeved white shirt and jeans, smiling down at me as his curly hair fell into his face almost blocking his hazel eyes. "Hi."
"Hey. You ready?" He asks.
"Ready for what?"
Okay so this was a really shitty chapter but it's whatever because I still think it's lowkey cute. Fun fact, chapter 22 was exactly 2222 words long.
But anyway, let me know what y'all think of this chapter and feel free to suggest what you want to see happen.
