"What song are we gonna sing?" Jace asks, playing random keys on the keyboard.
It's Sunday and I'm at Jace's house cause we have to practice the song for prom which is on Friday.
"I don't know." I pull out my phone and sit beside him in the stool. "Siri, what are good songs to play when one is slow dancing?"
"Searching up good Chinese restaurants to order from in the area."
"No!" I tell her and Jace laughs.
"We just have to think for ourselves," Jace said and I nod.
"What do people even play when they are slow dancing?" I question.
"I don't know Mikayla, that's why we have to think."
After awhile I snapped. "I got it."
* * * * *
"... enough," Jace and I both sang and Jace stopped playing. "I think that's good," I smile."Yup. Also, wanna go to prom?" He smiled.
"Of course dummy," I shoved him. "But this should be the first and last time you're asking me to go somewhere with you like that."
"I thought you said you didn't care?"
"Said every girl that cares ever," I stood up and grab the rest of the chocolate chip cookies. "I'mma go home. Have to watch Leif."
"Bye baby!" He pretended to cry and hugged me, fake sobbing.
"Bye my love!" I fake cry along with him before laughing and getting out of the house and into my car, driving home.
I heard Leif's cry the moment I step in the house. "Leif, baby!" I call out, going up into Jayla's room. Leif was sat up on her bed against the pillows, Jayla shaking his bottle.
She smiles at me. "Finally man. I have to be at work in like fifteen minutes. Mom and Dad are out, Jordan I'm pretty sure is sleeping and Leo's coming over to see Leif. I'll be back at nine," Jayla hugged me, grabbed her purse and left.
I sit beside Leif and he looks up at me with a smile, seeing that I had a pacifier in my hand. I put it in his mouth. "She didn't even say bye to you, Lee? For shame."
I carried him with me downstairs and fed him his milk and he eventually dozed off to sleep. After setting him down for his nap, I did some homework and all that stuff before taking a nap myself.
I woke up awhile later to Jordan playing around with Leif, Leo collecting the toys that Leif kept throwing. "What y'all wanna eat?" I ask, my voice groggy.
"Funny how you just wake up and start talking about food," Leo jokes.
"Your aunty is a female Fat Albert," Jordan cooes at Leif and I roll my eyes, going into the kitchen to make something.
I placed the chicken in the oven once I had marinated it and placed vegetables to stew on the stove, rice to boil and gravy.
As those all cooked, I went onto my phone and did some prom dress shopping. But I hated everything so I went to see just simple designs, then fabrics followed by someone I could get to make everything.
The price range was affordable and so I decided to schedule an appointment with the tailor to take measurements and stuff.
I ate and headed to bed once Jayla and my parents had come back home around eleven.
My phone rang at like, three in the morning. I answer, seeing it was Drew.
"Kayla?"
"Why are you calling at such an ungodly hour?" My voice croaked through the phone.
"Cause I can't sleep."
"So you call me instead of your girlfriend?"
"Yeah," he laughed. "Also cause we barely talk and I just thought why not?"
"Mhmm," I mumble, sleep taking over.
"Are you going for prom?"
"Yeah, Jace just asked me yesterday when I was at his house," I whisper. I honestly don't have the strength to talk.
"How'd he do it?"
"He just asked."
I heard Drew start coughing on the other end.
"You sick?" I question.
"Nah. Just a cough I'm sure. You think I can do the same thing for Mia?"
"What same thing?"
"Just blankly ask her?" He asked.
I laughed. "No. You know how Mia is. Like, the same way you got Jace and I to help you ask her to be your girlfriend is literally the same way she'd probably ask you to prompose."
"You and Jace gonna help me again?" Drew asked, sounding all hopeful.
"No sir. That's all on you. I only have today, tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday to get all my prom stuff together AND get my car cleaned and my room cleaned out and try to help Jace get his stuff together for college too–"
"Kayla, I don't need you life story," Drew laughed.
I laughed too. "Even though I won't get half of that stuff done, I've been so busy with school and stuff and this whole caller thing and we graduate next week too so I honestly just want to take time to myself."
"On the caller stuff," he skipped basically everything I said, "any hints?"
"I know that she is a girl, as we all do. Has an X somewhere in her name, is close to me and is one of Jace's one night stands."
"Have you narrowed down the list?"
"Gena, Mere and Mia," I yawn.
"Why them?" He asked.
"I know you're probably upset cause Mia's on the list and she's our best friend and your girlfriend," I tell him, "but they're the only ones I spend alot of time with and one of them kissed Jace at that sleepiver back in September so there really aren't any other sensible options."
He sighs. "I guess but it's whatever. I just want you and brother and law to live better lives again cause I love you both."
I laugh at the brother in law part. "Love you too. But if it is Mia, you gonna dump her?"
There was silence for probably like a whole minute before he spoke up again.
"Hell yeah."
"For real?" My eyes widen.
Creepy stalker chick that slept with my not boyfriend at the time aside, Mia's been out best friend for almost ten years. Probably twelve when it comes to Drew. So his answer shocked me.
"I know, we've know each other for a long time, blah blah blah," he said. "But I don't think I could go on with my life with someone who was so crazily attached to someone that they hurt my other best friend."
"Well, way to give someone a heart attack at three in the morning."
