Jayla walks into my room just as I'm packing up to head over to Jace's house. "Hey."
I crease my brows at her unenthusiastic greeting. "Hey, what's wrong?"
She finds herself in front of me after closing the door, "Need help with my zipper," she turned to unveil the undone torture.
Is it just me or is it that whenever I wear a dress with a zipper, everytime I bend down it unzips and zipping up that morning was just the hardest part and you having to zip it back up is so hard and you just wanna hide in a tunnel because your zipper is down and–
"Thanks," she sighs, seating herself on my bed and I situate myself beside her.
"What's wrong, Jay?"
Jayla looks up at the ceiling, something she always does whenever she wants to cry. "There's something I've been keeping to myself for awhile now."
I scoot closer to her and rub circles on her back, "What is it?"
Like I've said before, my sister and I have always been close. No matter what she does to me or I do to her we both know that we can't replace the other in either of our lives. And seeing my usually arrogant and lively sister so low like this honestly breaks me slowly.
"Jayla, you know you can talk to me," I reassure her and this is when a tear falls down her cheeks and she looks down at her lap, playing with her perfectly manicured nails.
"By–Byron cheated, Kayla," she looks towards me and I give her a sympathetic/confused/angry face.
"What happened?"
She releases a huge breath before saying, "I was coming back from a friend's house after him and I got in a fight. When I was almost back to my apartment, I had realized I forgot my wallet with my house keys back at her house so I had to go all the way back over there. Byron's car was parked outside her apartment complex and when I used my spare key she gave me, I found them having it on the couch."
"Oh, Jayla. I'm so sorry," I truthfully whisper.
Jayla just shakes her head, tears escaping her eyes but in no way affecting her voice like it would if I were. "It's not your fault. It's mine. You guys always told me and reminded me about his past and yet I still tried to give him a chance and let him in continuously.
"I pushed all five of you guys and basically the whole family away too because I was looking past the love and support you guys were giving me and to everything fake he gave," she said this and slid the ring off her finger. "I let this fucking ring break my bond with my family. I mean, we were only together for three weeks before he even proposed. I shouldn't have tried to rush into things.
I really shouldn't have because all mistakes have consequences."
"Jayl–"
"Mikayla, I'm pregnant," her eyes meet my wide ones again as she says this.
"Ooooh, you gonna be in troubbllleee," I say like a little child and she just rolls her eyes as I point my finger at her.
Her eyes widen when she spots something and quickly grips onto my wrist, viewing the small tattoo. "You got a tattoo?"
I don't reply to that.
"Ooooh, you gonna be in trouble," she mocks and I snatch my hand away.
"We both will, I guess. But to be honest, I'm not really mad at you for being pregnant or whatever because things that we can't always controls do happen."
Jayla sighs, "Mikayla, I'm really sorry."
"For what?"
"I've been a terrible sister these past few years and I completely just left you in the dark about all my stuff. I am a terrible role model for such a smart, beautiful and talented person like you. I should've been a better sist–"
