"Write about a phone call you recently received."
___________________________________________________________
Seriously, there are some days, when these prompts inspire me and other days, when they conspire against me. This prompt is a conspiracy against me – 'write about a phone call you received. Can it get more ridiculous, especially when I actually have two numbers – one for office calls and one for personal one.
The office phones is rarely silent and the personal one has too many calls from various call centres; 'we are selling plots...;' 'not interested..,'
'Would you like to move from your current telecom provided to...' – why should I, that too at your suggestion?'
'We have pre approved loans with easy EMIs...' 'Could I get a non-repayable grant instead...' (Trust me, I really did ask this and it worked like a charm, for two years, they simply deleted my number from their call lists).
The calls on my official number are equally irritating, though they do not give me the opportunity to act smart, considering they are from my boss, colleagues, auditors and other external parties. These calls concern queries and suggestions that range from mundane to urgent, from routine to downright stupid; all have to be answered with politeness, not letting them know that they are advertising their foolishness.
I agree that the telephone, or its modern avatar as the mobile phone has eased communications but often I hate this instrument. At times, I have so many calls that my ears ache and my throat hurts; it is at times like this that I curse Alexander Graham Bell, if only he had not...
