"Write about a flower that grows in an unusual place."
______________________________
I love that flower, that supposedly wild flower which grows like a weed in our gardens and has quite a few medicinal properties. Commonly known as 'Billa Ganneru (Catharanthus roseus, commonly known as the Madagascar periwinkle, rose periwinkle, or rosy periwinkle, is a species of flowering plant in the dogbane family Apocynaceae. It is native and endemic to Madagascar, but grown elsewhere as an ornamental and medicinal plant, a source of the drugs vincristine and vinblastine, used to treat cancer. Other English names include '"Cape periwinkle" and "old-maid").
Though a hardy plant, it grows best in full sun and well drained soil.
The picture above shows it growing from a crack in the concrete, under a blazing sun and almost no soil bedding, and apparently not much water either, still it is in full bloom; defiant and beautiful. A blooming example of doing what you do best despite the adverse, almost unsuitable circumstances. A lesson for all of us, it should not matter if the situation is not suitable, if we do not give up, if we set our heart and mind to it,we would survive and thrive and like the tiny brave periwinkle, blossom in the harshest climate.
