"What's not to write about the beach?"
__________________________________________
Beaches - pristine sand, blue green waters and salty air. Beaches - where one can relax, soak up the sun or take a cool dip. Beaches - where the sea kisses the earth. Beaches - sky touches the ocean.
There is something about walking on a beach, your feet slipping into the loose sand and the wide open ocean lapping at your feet. Maybe it is the sight of the never ending sea that has a calming effect on you, before that expanse both you and your problems seem small and insignificant. Beaches are fun agreed, if the company is right or else they are just a crowed din, but with friends, even the noise is musical.
But beaches can be enjoyed alone too, walking on the edge of the sea line, with the waves lashing in only to scatter into mild spray, the wet sand firming up under the water to sink just enough to capture your footprints only of have the waves wash them away. The waters are blue or green reflecting the bright sunlight and turn to molten gold during sunrises and sunset. Watching the sinking sun or the rising one, it is awe inspiring. And then there is the moon, which seems to make the seas desperate as its silvery waters reach higher in a bid to caress the moon (it is a scientific fact that the moon causes the tides).
Somehow, the salty air seems to agree with me too, I rarely have had an asthma attack whenever I have visited as seaside place, so it is a win win situation for me. But not all beaches are smooth and calm, some are gritty (as is the one in Visakhapatnam, a day at the beach and in the sea, you return only to see you feet look as though somebody had used a metal scrub on them. Then the beach at Konark is rough while the one at Puri is soft and nice (though the causarina trees planted on the beaches keep you awake at night, it is almost impossible to fall asleep with the whistling sounds). Goa is white soft and crowded, but fun if all you want to do is beach hopping in the company of friends. The one at Mumbai, not much to write home but I have fond memories as we watch a sunset with friends. I think friends make any place memorable.
Beaches are lovely places, unless you are afraid of water, even then, you could sit a distance away and watch the sea crash to the earth; the only place which can be enjoyed with company or savoured in solitude.
