"Write about a time you've been physically hurt."

Black - that is the nothingness that fill you, feels like an eternity but it a mere seconds and body's in built survival mechanism takes over. I blink, phophenes floating and touch my face to see the warm blood trickling down. Okay so I did get hurt quite badly - in a freak head on collision with a guy who seemed to think that he would save a few precious minutes driving on the wrong side of the road rather than take an U-turn a kilometer down the road.

A kind passer-by helps me off my scooter and wants to know if I am fine enough to cross the road to visit the small clinic. I nod, unsure of why he is sounding so concerned, agreed I a was bleeding, presumably from my nose but still...

The clinic did the preliminary cleaning and gave their prognosis - the cut on the bridge of my nose was deep and would need to be stitched and since they did not have the facility to do so, I would have to visit the nearby Government hospital. I sighed, then called home to inform my family, and as expected they reacted with hysteria and histrionics, I had only one reply, "Since I am talking and my voice is normal, nothing serious happened.

Two hours later, I was finally cleared for the stitching (they had to pull out the plastic surgeon and since mine was definitely not an emergency, they could their own sweet time). The anesthesia hurt a bit but when they held my nose to insert the stitches, it was excruciating; even the doctor's explanation that the anesthesia only numbs the skin and not the bone, and they were being gentle, sounded logical but did not take away the sting.

The shock and the pain hit me after I reached home and could finally relaxed, swallowing was difficult, coughing was painful and I had been instructed not to sneeze (as though that was in my hands...).

Today, years later, I still have a slight scar and the tiny remnants of the bone swelling, though I do agree with the doctor, I was lucky not to have broken my nose.
