"Write about a shiny object"
____________________________________
One object that shines, but I like so many; maybe I will keep it general.
I like shiny stuff, not those gaudy glittering ones, those that hurt the eyes. I like the subdued sheen of silk as against the gaudy shine of satin; the dull sparkle of silver as compared to gaudy gold; the glint of crystal, the brilliance of diamonds, the the ephemeral glow of dew drops as opposed to the bright noon sun and the distant scintillating of the million stars.
There is something fascinating in the understated shine when set off against the gaudy brightness, much as Lord Byron immortalised 'Thus mellowed to the tender light, which heavens to gaudy day denies'. Somehow shimmering is preferable to flashy, for elegance is muted while desperation is always gaudy. Indeed that much of shine and glitter does dazzle and could make you blind but sparkle and glow are just fine, attract but do not demand attention.
As another of my favourite quote goes, 'Leave a little sparkle wherever you go'.
